Every task you complete supports the relentless pursuit of safer, more reliable systems that drive progress nationwide. This position is located at our Materials and Fuels Complex. Our team works a 4X10 schedule with every Friday off. This schedule may require overtime weekends/extended shifts, based on business needs.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Perform nuclear facility corrective/preventive maintenance and/or troubleshooting activities.
  • Read plant drawings, field sketches, and apply math equations.
  • Perform in-depth review of work orders and provide direction to the team to ensure HPI tools are utilized while engaged in work activities.
  • Review, modify, or write technical mechanical procedures.
  • Perform on-the-job training (OJT) and escort duties for other craftsmen as required.
  • Participate in work order planning and walkdowns, material identification/recommendation, and material procurement as required.
  • Attend training as directed by the training schedule and supervision. Satisfactorily complete all required oral or written examinations associated with training.
  • Participate in company safety programs including but not limited to VPP, ALARA, and EST.
  • Participate in nuclear operations maintenance assessments as required.
  • Continuously monitor work activities and inform supervision, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain records of work performed and pass on necessary information to supervision or the oncoming crew as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Highly skilled in the use of the tools of the trade, which may include hand and power tools.
  • Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Knowledge of the following: mechanical and operational theory, hydraulics, pneumatics, actuators, valves, positioners, etc.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, atomic, and sub-atomic structures and processes.
  • May have knowledge of hazardous material waste handling and disposal and certification to work in contaminated areas in nuclear facilities may be required.
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

Required:

  • Level 3 - High School or equivalent and 4 years related experience.
  • Level 4 - High School or equivalent and 6 years related experience.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
  • Obtain Radiological Worker qualification and maintain qualification for the duration of employment.
  • Complete the Nuclear Maintenance Mechanical Qualification and other training and qualifications as directed by Management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree and 5 years' experience.

    Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is Level 3 ($30.84/hr - $50.87/hr)/ Level 4 ($36.08/hr - $59.52/hr). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Working Conditions:

The work environment includes an office, buildings, and a field environment. The field environment may include exposure to adverse weather, working in high traffic areas, potential exposure to hazardous chemicals/waste, and noisy and/or loud equipment. Field work may include working with hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment which subjects the employee to mechanical and electrical hazards, moving vehicles, and heavy equipment. Position may work >8 hours/day, overtime/irregular hours, and working alone.
