Sustainability Intern 2026

We're hiring a change-making student who is ready to make a positive industry impact! This internship provides hands-on experience, giving students the opportunity to apply strategic initiatives and impact assessment techniques in a real-world manufacturing environment for both quick wins and long-range benefits.

This internship is a twelve-week, full-time engagement that will kick off and conclude onsite at our Kalamazoo, Michigan facility. Working closely with the sustainability lead, the ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills to enable successful cross-functional collaboration.

How You'll Contribute

This position is designed to allow students the opportunity to learn and apply skills in Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Product Declarations, and Sustainability Reporting. Interns will spend half their time supporting LCA and manufacturer's disclosures, a quarter of their time assessing improvement pathways for the organization in one of the special topic areas below, and the final quarter of their time advancing sustainability initiatives in decarbonization, site stewardship, and/or waste diversion as needed.

Students will gain experience in:



  • Development of Environmental Product Declarations
  • Working with material and product data
  • Manufacturers' disclosures
  • Strategic initiatives deployment and collaboration


Principal Responsibilities:



  • Assist in gathering and logging data for Life Cycle Assessment and Embodied Carbon Reduction
  • Support the work of the EPD Program Operator Consultant and Engineering Team
  • Track and monitor progress against targets in the Sustainability Roadmap
  • Research and develop improvement pathways for your special project focus area
  • Attend weekly meetings, Champions updates, and Bi-Annual Scorecard Review
  • Other duties as assigned


Education:

Undergraduate students in their Junior or Senior year, or Graduate Students in at least the second year in one of the following fields: Landscape Architecture, Manufacturing, Industrial or Product Design, Supply Chain, Life Cycle Assessment, or Sustainability Reporting.

Experience:

Experience in Microsoft Excel and in a design or engineering drafting medium (AutoCAD, Rhino, Solid Works, etc.) will help set you up for success. Let us know about your other special skills in: Design Software (Adobe Suite, etc.), Life Cycle Assessment Tools for Sites or Products, and Sustainability Reporting Frameworks. Familiarity with the SITES, LEED, or TRUE rating systems, or with tools like Pathfinder, Carbon Conscience, or One Click LCA is a plus.
