Assistant Controller (Full-Time, On-Site)
Location: Birmingham, AL Our client is seeking an Assistant Controller to support and strengthen the accounting function for a growing organization. This role is ideal for a strong Senior Accountant who's ready to step into broader responsibilities, gain leadership exposure, and develop toward a future controller-level position. _______________________________________ What You'll Do * Support the monthly close process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, variance analysis, and preparation of financial statements * Assist with daily accounting operations and help maintain the accuracy of the general ledger * Contribute to financial analysis, reporting, and budgeting activities * Partner with internal teams to understand operational drivers that impact financial results * Maintain and improve accounting systems, processes, and internal controls * Assist with audit preparation, documentation, and ongoing compliance requirements * Create and refine financial schedules, reports, and analyses to support decision-making * Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability ________________________________________ What We're Looking For * Bachelor's degree in Accounting * 3-6 years of progressive accounting experience * Strong Senior Accountant background with readiness for expanded responsibility * Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and month end close processes * Strong Excel skills and the ability to build schedules and analyses independently * Curious, detail oriented, and comfortable working with both financial and operational information * CPA or public accounting experience is a plus, but not required ________________________________________ Who This Role Is For Great fit for someone who: * Wants to grow beyond a traditional Senior Accountant role * Enjoys hands on accounting work with increasing leadership exposure * Is motivated by improving processes and building structure in a growing environment * Wants a long term career path toward broader accounting leadership Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
