Georgia-Pacific Engineering Group is seeking qualified professionals for our Senior Mechanical Projects Engineer opportunity. In this role you will coordinate with PM's, facilities, key stakeholders and engineering contractors.

Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia-Pacific is one of the world's leading manufacturers and marketers of building products, tissue, packaging, paper, cellulose and related chemicals. The company employs more than 30,000 people at approximately 300 locations in North and South America. This role reports into a corporate engineering organization, but partners routinely with leadership teams at GP's network of Building Products, Corrugated, Cellulose and Consumer Product facilities across the US as well as other engineering and technical resources.

This position will require approximately 25-35% travel (project dependent), and this would be a Hybrid role with at least 1 day at the Atlanta or Green Bay offices weekly.

What You Will Do

Technical Design and Development:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand technical requirements and business needs.
  • Design and develop technical solutions, including hardware, software, and systems architecture.
  • Create detailed technical specifications and documentation.
  • Right sized engineering package
  • Feasibility analysis
  • Design Reviews
  • Studies list development
  • Input to schedule development
  • Participation in Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) procedure development and execution
  • Best Value Options Analysis
  • Scope Development
  • Earned Value Calculations

Implementation and Integration:

  • Support selection of engineering partners.
  • Oversee the installation and configuration of technical solutions.
  • Ensure seamless integration with existing systems and processes.
  • Conduct testing and validation to ensure system performance and reliability.

Troubleshooting and Support:

  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues in a timely manner.
  • Provide technical support to 3rd party engineering partners and internal teams, addressing queries and concerns.
  • Develop and maintain troubleshooting guides and documentation.

Project Collaboration:

  • Work closely with project managers and teams to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Participate in project planning, resource allocation, and risk management.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend enhancements to existing systems.

Training and Knowledge Transfer:

  • Provide training and support to end-users on new systems and technologies.
  • Prepare instructional materials and conduct workshops as needed.
  • Mentorship

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering
  • Minimum 10 years' Mechanical Engineering experience
  • Experience leading mechanical engineering within projects
  • Expertise with ASME B31.3 process piping code

What Will Put You Ahead

  • P.E. License or EIT with ability to obtain a PE license
  • Experience in Pulp and/or Paper Sectors
  • Experience in pump design
  • API 650 Tank Design Experience
  • ASME pressure vessel design experience
  • Proficiency with Auto Desk Suite (ACC, Plant 3D, Revit)
  • Experience in welding design
  • Experience with thermal systems
  • Experience with boilers and energy systems
  • Experience with NFPA code and piping
  • Experience with Industrial Compressed Air Systems
  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies
