| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The primary purpose of the Physical Plant is to maintain the building, grounds, and infrastructure of the
UNCW campus so that it is safe, reliable, clean, and attractive. This includes departments such as
HVAC, Electric, Plumbing, Landscaping, Housekeeping, Motor Pool, Food Services Maintenance, Carpentry, Paint and Roofing, Fire Alarm and Physical Security and Access and Locksmith Services.
The Electric Shop in the Physical Plant of Facilities provides maintenance, repair and installation of campus-wide electrical primary and secondary distribution, equipment, lighting and electrical fixtures. |

| Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
This position performs installation, maintenance and repair of primary and secondary electrical distribution systems, electrical equipment, building lighting, electrical fixtures, outside lighting and power and performs temporary installation of electrical power for public and university functions throughout campus.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform wiring, conduit installation, electrical troubleshooting, and repair/replacement of electrical and lighting fixtures.
- Utilize multimeters, ammeters, meggers, locating devices, and other trade-specific test equipment.
- Occasionally monitor, evaluate, and inspect electrical work to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
As a Lead, additional responsibilities:
- Subject matter expert in the field on specific scopes of electrical work.
- Works as a supervisor of the work, mentors and verifies 5 Electricians and 3 temporary Electricians in the field.
- Perform project inspections of all electrical work, including, but not limited to new installs, existing installs, repairs, replacements, layout, field supervision.
- Ensure the application of Lock Out/Tag Out procedures is performed on all field work.
- Provide quotes for customers: pre-task planning, build materials list for repairs.
- Act as a Field Instructor to mentor, lead and teach the other Electricians.
- Collaborate with other shop supervisors to troubleshoot issues and identify the interdependencies between shops required to successfully complete jobs.
*This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist in the removal of snow, ice or debris, as required.

| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.

| Preferred education, professional skills and experience |
- Five years of field experience in the electrical trade.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to plan work operations, follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with department heads and other trade and contract workers are required.
- Ability to use computers, IPads, IPhone, for timekeeping, communication, data entry and work order management.
- Must possess strong electrical trade knowledge and skills.
- Working knowledge of National Electrical Code and NC State Building Code.
- Ability to diagnose faults and perform corrective repairs on primary/secondary distribution wiring, transformers, switchgear, main and sub service panels, and complete building electrical distribution wiring, conduits, fixtures and lighting.
- Qualified for electrical license by an Authority Having Jurisdiction and/or Municipality. No license is required.
