Job Description

GDS Associates, Inc. is looking for a Senior Project Lead to join its Planning & Advisory Business Unit. In this role, you will provide analytical support with an emphasis on power market analytics and modeling.

The Planning & Advisory Business Unit helps support a variety of unique and challenging long-term planning processes on behalf of our public power and utility industry clients across the US. The Planning & Advisory Business Unit evaluates different generation resources that can be used to meet the needs of our electric utility clients' retail customers and develops customized, strategic recommendations to secure cost-effective and reliable power for our electric utility clients. In addition, our team is involved from coast-to-coast in structured and unstructured power markets creating sustainable solutions for planning, procurement, and implementation.

Responsibilities:



  • Prepare energy, capacity, and REC price forecasts, provide assessments of market fundamentals, analyze changing landscape of market design in power markets, provide insight on changing market rules and impact to client critical planning functions.
  • Use common industry models and tools as needed to perform detailed analytics.
  • Evaluate complex issues surrounding congestion costs and ARR/FTR positions.
  • Contribute to consulting projects by summarizing modeling results and seeking out peer review of material to support delivery of high-quality client-specific projects.
  • Continuously develop subject matter expertise in a particular practice or focus area by actively contributing to above listed activities and pursing activities/work in various disciplines and staying abreast of current/hot topics to broaden and build upon subject matter knowledge.
  • Develop draft communication for clients in the form of reports and presentations.
  • Delivery of complete and accurate subtasks and portions of project deliverables to project supervisor.
  • Collaborate with other team members and other business units.


Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, statistics, accounting, finance, or similar energy industry-related field.
  • Experience related to project team assignments of at least (6) six or more years preferred.
  • Prior experience with industry modeling tools and practices, including economic and financial analytical methods preferred.
  • Prior experience in power markets planning, policy, and modeling (CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, PJM, SPP) is a plus.
  • Prior experience in RTOs analyzing congestion, ARR/FTRs, resource adequacy requirements, and / or RPS requirements is a plus.
  • Project team collaboration. Manage timely delivery of tasks assigned to a project team. Supervision of a project team. Latitude for independent judgement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Solid problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of current industry standards and how to apply them.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Carry out complex project assignments that require advanced knowledge.
  • Familiarity with production cost models preferred.(e.g., Aurora, PLEXOS, PROMOD IV, GridView, Market Analytics, etc...)
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office applications required (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience with SQL, Python, or VBA is a plus.

Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements.
