In the role of Senior Communications Strategist, we'll count on you to:
* Support technical teams in using clear, effective communication with neighborhoods, stakeholders, and elected officials.
* Support global and local communication strategies by working closely with engineering teams, environmental specialists, and marketing and communication partners.
* Collaborate with engineers, architects, designers, and other experts to develop clear and accurate content, including white papers, feature articles, thought leadership pieces, and social media posts.
* Lead the creation of collateral and campaign materials for capital projects, public engagement activities, regulatory updates, and emergency communications.
* Research, write, and edit project narratives and case studies that clearly explain infrastructure projects for public audiences.
* Deliver employee training on communication best practices, helping technical staff communicate clearly with customers, stakeholders, and regulators.
* Monitor trends in community and stakeholder engagement for infrastructure projects and share useful insights with the team.
* Support technical staff in using clear communication practices when engaging with customers, stakeholders, and regulators.
* Craft and steward memorable engagement experiences, transforming public meetings, community workshops, and regulatory events into clear, meaningful touchpoints that resonate with diverse audiences.
* Help shape the scope, schedule, and budget for communication activities supporting transportation infrastructure projects.
* Bring creative, practical ideas that help simplify complex topics for public and stakeholder audiences.
* Mentor and support junior strategists and communications staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in regional infrastructure and local government work.
- Previous consulting and/or creative agency experience.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years experience in a communications field of expertise: social media, event planning, community engagement, target marketing, descriptive writing, public involvement, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated and ability to work independent with multiple teams as well as team oriented
- Great interpersonal and communication skills - positive outlook and attitude
- High aptitude for managing and solving tactical issues
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
- Comfortable and competent while working with senior leaders and managing cross-functional efforts
- Demonstrated ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
- Committed to quality, continuous improvement, and HDR values
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite - InDesign
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
