Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening at its corporate headquarters in Allentown, PA, for an ASU Project Development Manager supporting the IG Americas business, with occasional travel required.

This role requires handling crossfunctional teams, encouraging collaboration, influencing others, and getting results. The Project Development Manager is expected to take ownership, hold others accountable, lead bid resources, understand customer needs, think strategically, and develop strong business expertise.

Responsibilities:

The Project Development Manager's principal accountability is to support the commercial leads in winning profitable business with proper plant concept selection, scoping, and estimating, while managing and communicating capital, technical, execution, and operational risk. Opportunities ranging from small to large cryogenic Air Separation Units and Liquefiers.

  • Scope: Define all relevant scope to develop an opportunity and value improve to find the best technical/economic solution. Work directly with customers and partners to develop proposal scope and responsibility matrix.
  • Estimate: Estimate accurately and expeditiously the best value proposition (capital and/or total evaluated cost) necessary to win and maximize profit consistent with commercial objectives. Bids may be used for many different commercial purposes (screening, budget bid, firm bid, etc.).
  • Lead: Own the bid process and document initial bid evaluations to determine resources required and set the general direction of the proposal work. Handle SE budgets and prioritize the bid team's work to develop proposals within typically challenging deadlines.
  • Sell: Support business development by writing and reviewing proposals, articulating Air Products' technical capabilities, meeting with customers onsite, and identifying differentiators that develop added value versus competitors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years' experience in a similar work environment.
  • Previous project/proposal development, project engineering, or product development/ownership/management experience is a plus.
  • Proven strong leadership skills, with the ability to be assertive, persistent, and hold people accountable to commitments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to take initiative with an entrepreneurial demeanor.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization, leading meetings, and handling conversations effectively with high level management.
  • Demonstrated strong skills in the use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Knowledge/understanding of Engineering and Manufacturing work practices. (Engineering, Design, Fabrication, Construction).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members across multiple countries, along with management in the US.
  • Ability to work independently, being accountable for accomplishing work with minimal direction.
