Department Summary The UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program is dedicated to promoting worker health, safety, and wellbeing, and building capacity for workers and worker organizations to take action to improve working conditions. LOSH offers high-quality training and education, participatory action research, policy analysis, and worker leadership development to advance worker rights and protections. LOSH is a unit of both the Institute for Research and Labor and Employment (IRLE) and the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH). Position Summary The UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program is dedicated to promoting worker health, safety, and wellbeing, and building capacity for workers and worker organizations to take action to improve working conditions. LOSH offers high-quality training and education, participatory action research, policy analysis, and worker leadership development to advance worker rights and protections. LOSH is a unit of both the Institute for Research and Labor and Employment (IRLE) and the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH). The Program Manager manages the federally-funded Western Region Universities Consortium (WRUC) to mitigate exposure to occupational and environmental hazards. Work in conjunction with Consortium members, the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Worker Training Program (WTP), and various partner organizations and agencies to monitor WRUC-wide programs, meet established benchmarks and ensure compliance with funder requirements. Assess needs associated with emerging hazards, identify new outreach and education opportunities and/or innovations in training approaches, evaluate the impact, and share results. Work with a team of LOSH staff and consultant-instructors to develop and implement outreach and education programs to address worker and community exposures, facilitate training and Train-the-Trainer programs for both Consortium partners and community audiences, and evaluate the impacts. Maintain internal and external WRUC communications. Comply with reporting and deliverable requirements as established by funders and the university. Lead WRUC evaluation activities. Represent LOSH and WRUC in local, state and national meetings. Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the work of LOSH project coordinators and support staff. Lead an internal LOSH NIEHS grant team. Identify new funding opportunities and contribute to grant proposals. Participate in LOSH-wide organizational and staff development initiatives. Salary & Compensation UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications* Experience with database software and/or management of datasets - Preferred (Preferred) And Experience conducting needs assessments and program evaluation activities. (Required) And Experience developing curricula, educational materials, and/or training activities for adult learners and experience facilitating training sessions and/or teaching through in-person or online means. (Required) And Experience collaborating with diverse partner organizations, including labor unions and/or community-based organizations. (Required) And Experience independently identifying funding opportunities and contributing to grant proposals. (Preferred) And Experience completing progress reports and complying with other funder reporting requirements. (Required) Working knowledge of occupational safety and health principles and policies and working knowledge of adult education principles with a commitment to advancing workplace health and safety, environmental health, and social justice for all workers. (Required) Familiarity with regulations related to hazardous materials, hazardous waste operations, emergency response, and related subjects. (Required) Ability to plan projects, develop work plans and timelines, and direct a team in timely completion of project objectives and skill in managing personnel, including hiring, coaching, assigning tasks, evaluating performance, and recommending appropriate corrective action when necessary. (Required) Ability to synthesize and communicate technical, scientific, and/or policy information for lay audiences. (Required) Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing, with government agency representatives, workers, unions, community-based organizations, and general public. (Required) Ability to work independently to complete tasks with minimal oversight, and to make decisions independently. (Required) Ability to analyze situations, define problems and objectives identifying relevant factors, formulate logical conclusions and recognize alternative solutions where initial conclusions cannot be implemented. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Master's Degree In environmental health, Public Health or related field or equivalent experience / training (Required) Or Five years equivalent combination of education and experience.
