Job Description

As a result, we now offer comprehensive landscape architecture and planning services, and our studio continues to grow.

We are seeking motivated landscape designers and planners to join our landscape architecture and planning studio in our Phoenix, Arizona, and Salt Lake City, Utah offices. As an employee owner at Terracon, you will gain hands-on experience working on a diverse array of exciting projects, including:

  • Participate in active construction projects, gaining exposure to real-world building and landscape development.*
  • Contribute to complex downtown revitalization initiatives that enhance urban environments and community spaces.
  • Engage in brownfield planning and visioning, transforming underutilized sites into vibrant, sustainable areas.
  • Assist with the creation of design and construction drawings for both public and private sector clients.
  • Collaborate on large-scale community planning projects that shape neighborhoods and future growth.
  • Work on sustainable and SITES-certified projects, supporting environmentally responsible design practices.

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide landscape architectural and consulting services for a broad array of projects and clients. This may include design and development of plans and specifications; site analysis and designs; calculations; and writing, preparing, and reviewing related reports for the services provided.
  • Review drawings and construction to assure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Prepare proposals for services, track and evaluate project progress and budgets, and recommend changes.
  • Research and resolve design and construction problems.
  • Apply sound landscape architectural principles and be able to communicate complex issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Services may be provided for existing or proposed projects in the commercial, retail, multi-family, hotel, senior living, industrial, and/or governmental sectors.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Understand and practice quality acumen.
  • Support consistent quality standards on proposal and project delivery.
  • Developing landscape architectural professional documents; assignments are designed to develop knowledge and abilities.
  • Assist in research, data collection, field observation, inspection, and field and laboratory testing. Prepare associated reports or sections of larger reports.
  • Consult with other technical people and supervisors on routine and less complex projects.
  • May perform basic calculations and analysis
  • Draft routine proposals and assist in the preparation of more complex proposals.
  • Perform plan drafting using CAD software.
  • May work with technician crews in observations and data gathering activities on project sites and prepare daily reports documenting activities and findings.
  • Work under the supervision of a Registered Landscape Architect.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in landscape architecture from an accredited program
  • 1-3 years of practical experience
  • Progress toward professional licensure
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history

  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • SketchUp or Rhino
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Lumion
  • Revit
  • LandFX

Working knowledge of:

  • Site grading and drainage design
  • Construction documentation and detailing
  • Plant identification and planting design
  • Irrigation system
  • Local zoning and development codes
  • Planning documents
  • Master planning

Ability to produce:

  • Concept plans
  • Site plans
  • Construction drawings
  • Renderings and presentation graphics
  • Planning documents and reports
