About the Job

This position is in a laboratory involved in understanding neuronal circuits in health and disease, using electrophysiology, optogenetics, transgenic animals, and mouse models. This position is ideal for someone looking to get intensive research experience for a couple of years before applying to graduate school.

The candidate will assist the Principal Investigator, Postdoctoral Associates, or students in the lab by performing procedures and experiments, such as slicing brain tissue and immunocytochemistry, stereotaxic surgeries, in vivo electrophysiology and imaging experiments, and similar techniques. They will also help ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and maintenance of laboratory supplies.

Weekend work may be required.

The following examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks. Once trained in a method, part of the job position will likely include training others.

Success in this area will require an ability to work with ones hands, follow protocols, careful execution of procedures, and iterative improvement in techniques.

30% - Tissue processing, including tissue harvest, tissue sectioning, mounting, and immunocytochemistry, and ex vivo electrophysiology.
Ultimate success will require attention to detail, ability to do fine hand work, and ability to communicate with others.

10% - Additional support, including tasks such as assisting with mouse colony management, including pairing, tail collection, weaning, euthanasia; laboratory upkeep and maintaining laboratory supplies, including making solutions, and ordering of supplies.
