Job Description

Job Summary:


As a key supervisory role, the Master Production Planner Supervisor oversees a team of planners and schedulers responsible for comprehensive manufacturing scheduling, inventory management, and production flow optimization. This position ensures inventory accuracy via cycle counting, identifies and resolves constrained work centers, and develops strategic plans to maintain seamless daily operations that align with the overall ship plan. The supervisor leads process improvements, mentors team members, and collaborates across departments to drive efficiency and on-time delivery.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Lead and supervise a team of production planners and schedulers, including task delegation, performance coaching, and professional development.
  • Plan, analyze, and prioritize production department requirements to optimize resource allocation and output.
  • Facilitate and participate in daily production meetings to monitor progress and ensure on-time delivery targets are met.
  • Interface with leads, supervisors, managers, and cross-functional teams on all production planning matters, providing guidance and resolution as needed.
  • Develop and distribute daily set-up plans to assembly teams, adjusting for real-time constraints.
  • Establish and refine processes for production planning to meet specifications, schedules, volume, cost, waste, and quality standards.
  • Liaise with various departments, advocating for the production team's needs and escalating issues to appropriate managers.
  • Review operations, confer with technical or administrative staff, and implement solutions to resolve production or processing challenges.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement using tools like 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, and other lean manufacturing principles.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with team members to discuss performance, with formal written reviews completed at least annually; address any disciplinary or developmental needs.


Job Skills & Abilities



  • Proficiency with MRP/ERP systems is essential.
  • Expert-level skills in MS Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills, with experience managing teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong communicator who is detail-oriented and adept at conveying complex information clearly.
  • Demonstrated organizational and multi-tasking abilities to handle team oversight and individual responsibilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for building team morale and cross-departmental relationships.
  • Analytical mindset with strong math skills for forecasting and problem-solving.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure, meeting tight deadlines while maintaining composure.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking in resolving issues and optimizing processes.
  • Consistent track record of meeting deadlines and driving team accountability.
  • Strong team player who collaborates effectively while leading by example.
  • Excellent attention to detail in planning and inventory management.
  • Ability to work within tight time frames with a sense of urgency, prioritizing based on customer demands, inventory levels, and team capacity.
  • Willingness to step in and support hands-on in manufacturing or shipping processes to achieve goals.


Education and Experience:



  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, supply chain management, or a closely related field
  • APICS certification (e.g., CPIM or CSCP) preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in production control or planning
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably managing planning or scheduling teams.


Physical Requirements:



  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities, including occasional standing or walking for team oversight.

Pay Range: $72k to $80k DOE
