Overview

The UT Level 3 is the technical authority for Ultrasonic Testing within the organization. This role is responsible for leading the UT program's strategic direction, ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards, maintaining technical excellence, and driving innovation in inspection technology and processes. This position serves as both a technical expert, advising clients, and influencing company-wide decisions regarding ultrasonic inspection capabilities.

This result-driven technical role is pivotal in ensuring technical accuracy, while aligning with customer requirements, industry codes and internal capabilities. The ideal candidate brings deep NDT knowledge, and the ability to interface engineering, quality, production, and business development teams.

Salary: $100,000 - $150,000/yr DOE



Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Manage NDT technical inspection program, multiple projects, timelines, and deliverables.
* Develop and execute long-term strategies for UT service expansion and market competitiveness.
* Establish and maintain the company's UT technical program in compliance with ASNT, NAS, AWS, API, ASME, ISO, and client-specific requirements.
* Serve as the Level III authority for ultrasonic inspection, providing oversight on qualification, certification, and recertification of UT personnel.
* Direct research, development, and adoption of advanced UT technologies to improve detection capabilities and productivity.
* Stay up-to-date with changes in industry codes (ASME, AWS, API, ASTM, NAS-410, etc.) and client-specific standards.
* Lead local technical training programs for UT personnel from entry-level through Level II.
* Mentor Level 1 through 3 technicians, fostering skill growth and technical problem-solving capabilities.
* Promote a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
5+ years of hands-on NDT experience
3+ years of Ultrasonic Level 3 experience
3+ years in technical project planning within industrial services or manufacturing.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical standards.
Proven experience developing complex technical programs for aerospace, nuclear, oil & gas, or similar regulated industries.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, quoting tools, and project planning software.

Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, customer testing specifications, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, fractions and proportions. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, trigonometry and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions, data and details furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
* Prior certification as NDT Level 3 in UT
* Certification in additional methods is a plus (RT, MT, PT, VT, ET).

Physical Demands:
* Frequency of required physical force: Occasional (moderate).
* Lifting requirements: lifting <50 lbs. often and > 50 lbs. sporadically.
* Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time.
* Ability to lift 50+lbs periodically.
* Work is performed mainly indoors.

Technical & Professional Skills:
* Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-volume environments
* Ability to manage priorities across multiple simultaneous projects
* Proficient in technical writing with the ability to create clear and accurate work instructions
* Read and understand technical specifications
* Interpret engineering drawings of manufactured components
* Software proficiency (Microsoft word, Excel, Power Point)
* Possess a high attention to detail in order to mitigate rework and quality errors
* Strong communication skills (explaining plans to inspectors, engineers, operations and technical stakeholders)
