Overview

First Citizens Bank offers an exciting summer internship program that provides development opportunities and hands on work experience while creating a talent pipeline for the Bank. Our interns will apply classroom knowledge in a corporate environment while making a positive impact across the organization and the communities we serve. As an intern in the Special Assets Division of First Citizens Bank, you will be exposed to stressed and distressed C&I loans originated in our Commercial Bank. The Commercial Bank supports large corporate and middle market clients.

You will support our team with day-to-day activities surrounding problem loans, including but not limited to such tasks as: spreading financial statements, analysis (learning cash flow, financial ratio and sensitivity analysis, compliance reporting monitoring, exposure to risk rating and impairment analysis, and using online risk reporting tools.

Our intern will be provided exposure to various Commercial Real Estate assets classes including multi-family, office, and mixed use. You will have an opportunity to listen in on client calls and to interact with other parts of the Bank, including relationship teams, portfolio managers, Legal, Compliance and Operations.


Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

* Be immersed in First Citizens sales culture, with opportunities to learn about various lines of business that partner with the branch to deliver products and services to our customers.

* Attend professional development sessions, informational sessions, networking and community service events.

* Have a dedicated manager and program manager to help you navigate the Bank and the internship program.

* Be assigned a project, designed to improve a specific process or solve a problem that you will present at the close of the internship.

* Prepare a wrap-up presentation to be shared with the division leader and other key stakeholders in the company to outline your accomplishments and experience during the internship.

Internship dates: 5/27/2026 - 7/31/2026


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience
  • Currently enrolled at an accredited collegiate institution (during the time of the summer program)
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week during the duration of the program

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3.0 minimum GPA
  • Strong desire to learn and grow
  • Possess a positive attitude, naturally curious and enjoys collaborating with others
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to adapt and adjust priorities based on business needs
  • Ability to take direction and absorb information quickly

The base pay for this position is generally between $22.44 and $34.32. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
