The UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art is a newly unified museum that brings together the academic depth of UC Irvine with the public presence of a major regional art institution. Led by Museum Director Kathryn Kanjo, the museum brings together two renowned institutions under a shared vision of public access, scholarship, and meaningful cultural engagement across Orange County and beyond.

The museum cares for a collection of more than 9,000 works tracing California art from the nineteenth century to today. As the museum moves toward a single, consolidated home, its work will be centered in the 53,000-square-foot public-facing building in Costa Mesa designed for exhibitions, programs, and community gathering-bringing together education, research, and public engagement under one roof.

As part of the University of California, the UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art connects artists, students, scholars, and the public through exhibitions, programs, and collaborations that spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and inspire connection. The museum is entering an exciting new chapter, guided by a vision of curatorial excellence, accessibility, and service to the region's vibrant cultural landscape.


Your Role on the Team

Performs specific, skilled custodial duties designed to maintain cleanliness, safety, and functionality at the assigned University location(s). Works under general supervision within defined guidelines and procedures. May serve for a small group of custodians by operating cleaning equipment and ensuring area is clean, being responsible for the security of area and possession of master keys, and serving as work leader for a small group of custodians as needed.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Ability to read, write, follow oral and written instructions.
  • Two years of experience in a custodial cleaning operation or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Solid knowledge in custodial and housekeeping services, including experience in specialist janitorial operations, substantial experience in carpet and hard floor care, and previous general custodial experience.
  • Ability to read, write, give and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Cleaning skills such as the ability to sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, polish, perform overhead cleaning, wash walls and windows, clean bathrooms, kitchens, office areas and other building surfaces.
  • Working knowledge of and ability for decision making, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, and perform operations analysis and quality control analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals, ability to select appropriate chemicals for the job, mix and dilute chemicals appropriately, and handle chemicals safely, as well as a general knowledge of safety precautions in the use of equipment, chemicals, lifting, and customer traffic.
  • Ability to prepare repair orders.
  • Communicate effectively with students, co-workers, and supervisors, and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn and implement security measures and follow blueprints and diagrams.
  • Understand emergency preparation and response plan.
  • Ability to speak and write in both Spanish and English.
  • Minimum 2 years professional cleaning experience in a custodial or janitorial role.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, Museum policies and procedures.
  • Proficient use of cleaning materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial service.
  • Understanding of hazards, accident prevention and safety practices for janitorial.
  • Ability to work independently, professionally and efficiently
  • Attention to detail.
  • Initiative to take on tasks without being told and without being monitored.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.

Driver's License:

  • Required to hold a valid drivers license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

Special Conditions:

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must accept a 5-day workweek, including occasional overtime assignments. Schedule to be determined by management. Workweek and times are subject to change.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $21.48- $24.20 (Hourly).
