Under minimal supervision, the Financial Aid Associate, will provide financial aid guidance and assistance to students and parents in obtaining federal, state, institutional and private student aid funding. Assist area of Compliance and Special Programs in ensuring federal, state, and university aid is awarded, adjusted, and reported correctly for audits and outside agency review. Assist in supervising other professional staff and/or student employees.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Research and respond to inquiries, problems, and issues that may arise from various sources. Work with specific populations in assigned colleges (Online programs, Health Professional Colleges,) and monitor all tuition waiver programs: DCFS, Child of Employee, Employee and State Related Agency waivers.
  • Responsible for the monitoring of various daily compliance reports; create, update and adjust awards based on analysis of eligibility and various edit reports and evaluation of the level and type of assistance that can be awarded.
  • Meet with and counsel students and parents in obtaining various sources of financial assistance funds. Provide information about available programs, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
  • Participate in and present financial aid workshops, presentations, and orientations for students, parents and assigned college/department liaison.
  • Assisting with scheduling and testing of Banner in yearly updates and enhancements to current aid year process; adhering to any new federal, state, or institutional policy updates.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures affecting financial aid programs and processes for training and professional development for office staff and supervise alternative loan operations.
  • May plan, assign and review work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met. May hire, train, develop and manage staff to ensure that a qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:
  1. Bachelor's degree in business, communications, humanities, social sciences, or a closely related field to the position.
  2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional experience working in student services, financial aid/loans or a closely related field within higher education or a related agency.

NOTE: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three years of experience in student financial aid or athletic department that demonstrates experience with a broad range of student aid or athletic programs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of, and compliance with, Federal and State aid, and experience with institutional aid and other rules that relate to this position.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Commitment to providing good customer service.
  • Education and experience should reflect the responsibilities for financial aid or athletic compliance administration in a large and highly complex environment of financial aid programs and services to a diverse student body.
