Responsibilities

The Nurse Educator is responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating, and updating educational programs that support clinical excellence and professional development for nursing staff. This role ensures that nurses maintain the competencies necessary to deliver highquality, evidencebased patient care. The Nurse Educator partners with clinical leaders, staff, and interdisciplinary teams to support onboarding, continuing education, and qualityimprovement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Education & Training

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates nursing education programs to enhance clinical skills and professional growth.
  • Coordinates and facilitates orientation and onboarding for new nursing staff.
  • Provides inservice training, competency assessments, and continuing education courses.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching methods, including simulation, classroom instruction, and bedside coaching.

Clinical Support

  • Serves as a resource to clinical teams in applying evidencebased practices.
  • Conducts learning needs assessments and adjusts education plans accordingly.
  • Supports staff in meeting regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, state boards).

Curriculum Development

  • Designs and updates educational materials, lesson plans, competency checklists, and clinical policies.
  • Ensures educational content reflects current best practices and standards of care.

Quality & Performance Improvement

  • Collaborates with leadership to identify gaps in practice and develop targeted education.
  • Participates in qualityimprovement initiatives and tracks outcomes of educational interventions.
  • Monitors staff performance and assists in developing performanceimprovement plans when needed.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Works closely with nurse managers, clinical specialists, and providers to align educational strategies with organizational goals.
  • Acts as a mentor and role model for professionalism and clinical excellence.
  • Supports a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or graduatelevel education in Nursing Education strongly preferred.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current RN license in good standing.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., NPDBC, CNE) preferred or required depending on the organization.

Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Prior teaching, precepting, or staff education experience preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and evaluate education outcomes.
  • Proficiency with learning technologies, simulation tools, and electronic health records.
