Description

As a Port Newark Container Terminal summer intern you will have the opportunity to put your collegiate experiences and knowledge into action by working on high impact projects within our IT Department.

Throughout your time, you will be exposed to the various pieces of the IT functions that support a dynamic Marine Terminal operation. You will be introduced to a multitude of technologies while adding value to a critical part of our business and gaining valuable experience applicable to many industries and career paths. You will work with our network, infrastructure and applications teams and external vendors in various ways to help facilitate and learn their parts in orchestrating the technology needs for a major terminal operation.

Essential Duties:



  • Help in all aspects of IT from network and infrastructure maintenance, general IT support, application maintenance and configuration, and project management
  • Administer assigned duties for projects including systems upgrades, infrastructure/network changes, new system rollouts
  • Data and system analysis
  • Process documentation and mapping
  • Support cyber security initiatives and documentation
  • Frontline user support


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Enrollment at a college/university/trade school through Summer 2026 and/or into the Fall 2026 semester
  • Pursuing a degree in IT, Business, Cybersecurity or related field from an accredited college/university/Trade/Vocational School
  • Valid US Driver's License
  • Ability to obtain / Maintain TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) issued by the Department of Homeland Security


Preferred Qualifications:



  • GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Excellent judgment and proven leadership ability
  • Strong communication skills
  • Enthusiasm and eagerness to learn
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to safety and accident prevention, safety codes and regulations, and related industry governmental regulations.


Working Conditions:



  • Climb up and down a ladder on a vessel multiple times within a shift
  • Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures, dusty conditions, and occasionally high levels of noise.
  • Work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment.
  • Lift, push, and/or pull up to 30lbs.


Internship Details



  • The start date will be Monday, June 1st, 2026
  • The internship will last approximately 10 weeks, ending on Friday, August 14th, 2026
  • This is a full-time internship (up to 40 hours a week, Mon- Friday)
  • The format is expected to be in-person at Port or office location


Selection Process

Compensation & Benefits



  • The hourly rate range is $25.00
  • Continuing to develop your skills and experience at a growing organization
