What Your Job Will Be Like

Sandia's Dept. 5326 Inertial Systems is a multidisciplinary group dedicated to advancing technology in the field of inertial sensor subsystems and avionics for a variety of defense applications. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced technologist to join our dynamic product realization teams. The teams work a portfolio of programs, including the longstanding W87 JTA IMU surveillance mission, hypersonic target vehicle development, W93 AFF sensor evaluation, and legacy inertial navigation systems.

On any given day the selected technologist could perform these types of activities:

Assembly and rework:

  • Assemble and disassemble prototype and flight systems
  • Cables and printed wiring assemblies

Testing:

  • Provide troubleshooting on various sensor, electronic systems and test equipment
  • Conduct bench-level and subsystem level for avionics and inertial sensor systems
  • Assume responsibilities for putting major flight hardware through environmental testing
  • Perform data acquisition and analysis
  • Interface with analyst teams

Documentation:

  • Review and revise notes that serve as procedural and lessons-learned content
  • Help develop procedures per TK standard

Mentorship:

  • Become familiar with organizations processes and determine areas of improvement
  • Offer work experience perspectives and guide early career staff
  • Team efficiently with the organization's engineers, technologists and business personnel

Due to the nature of work, successful candidate must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$74,700 - $144,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Associates degree in STEM field or 4 years or relevant experience
  • Familiarity with mechanical assembly
  • Electronics troubleshooting experience
  • Familiarity with lab test equipment (multi-meter, oscilloscope, power supply)
  • Familiarity with schematic capture tools (Altium, Siemens Xpedition, etc).
  • Experience with MSOffice and running custom software tools
  • Experience reworking printed circuit boards and cables
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire

  • IPC certifications - IPC-A-610, J-STD 001, WHMA-A-620, IPC 7711/7721
  • Familiarity with computer-based mechanical drawing packages (SolidWorks, CREO)
  • Working experience with inertial sensors
  • Willingness to contribute and offer lessons learned after project cycles for process improvement
  • Experience with Nuclear Deterrence engineering development rigor and processes
  • Ability to document and keep notes to account for troubleshooting and test activities
  • Excellent personal interaction with team members and customers
  • Attention to detail per handling of flight hardware and safety practices

Sandia's Department 5326 - Inertial Systems is dedicated to developing and delivering cutting-edge sensor and electronic subsystems for missile systems, air-delivered applications, and ground navigation. Our work involves advancing current design initiatives and creating prototype and surrogate items, all of which undergo rigorous testing and characterization in thermal, vibration, shock, various motion, electromagnetic, and radiation environments. The organization excels in engineering development for the interface, testing, and evaluation of inertial sensors, ensuring their integration into complex electronic and mechanical systems. Our team possesses a diverse range of skills, including expertise in electronics engineering, software design, mechanical modeling and design, and electro-mechanical fabrication. Our product development process encompasses conceptualization, requirements gathering, modeling, detailed design, fabrication, system integration, testing, and data analysis, all aimed at delivering reliable solutions to our various customers.

Posting Duration

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
