Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Quality Engineer to work on our ESH&Q team. Our team works a 9/80 schedule located out of our Willow Creek office in Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. At Idaho National Laboratory, your quality engineering expertise will safeguard the reliability and compliance of nuclear and advanced energy systems. You'll conduct program reviews, develop inspection plans, resolve facility compliance issues, and provide technical guidance across Idaho National Laboratory's most complex projects, driving continuous improvement while ensuring every structure, system, and component meets the rigorous standards that nuclear research demands. You will report to the Quality Programs and Field Services Manager in ESH&Q. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Serve as contact and subject matter expert for INL lab-wide quality assurance programs, processes, and requirements
- Participate in the development and improvement of INL procedures, training materials, and tools to implement contractually applied quality program requirements
- Conduct quality program reviews for applicable activities to ensure adequate quality requirements are identified and incorporated.
- Establish protocols for inspection basis and nonconformance conditions.
- Provide technical expertise, assistance, and advice to program, project, facility management, and personnel relative to quality compliance and implementation issues. Interact with facility senior management on significant matters requiring coordination across organizational lines.
- Provide solutions to resolve facility, program, or project compliance issues.
- Develop quality planning documents implementing BEA Quality Program engineering principles. Develop quality assurance inspection plans for quality-significant items and services to ensure compliance with design and procurement requirements.
- Review and approve quality-related procurement actions to ensure appropriate implementation of Quality Program requirements.
- Provide Quality Program expertise to assist assigned facility personnel in developing new quality concepts for the design, development, procurement, and installation of new structures, systems, and components (SSC).
- Conduct Quality assessments and surveillance activities to identify weaknesses and potential safety, quality, and efficiency improvements.
- Provide input to subject matter experts and functional area managers to promote continuous improvement in INL Quality and related processes.
- Interface with internal and external customers to determine that needs are being met.
- Coach/mentor facility personnel through the application of subject matter expertise in the quality requirements for activities affecting quality in DOE Nuclear Facilities and Non-nuclear Facilities as identified by the Quality Assurance Plan.
- Provide surveillance, auditing, and reporting services for a given facility or scope of work assignment to ensure facility management has clear visibility and the opportunity to manage organizational performance.
- Ensure quality program compliance through the review and concurrence of quality-affecting documentation.
- Maintain a complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, and practices required for delivering quality techniques and tools.
- Maintain required training and proficiency per training plan.
Required:
- Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree in technical field related to Quality (Chemistry, Engineering, or related field) and 5 years of relevant experience OR a Master's degree or PhD and 2 years of relevant experience OR High School Diploma and 11 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree (see below for relevant experience).
- Level 4: Bachelor of Science degree in technical field related to Quality (Chemistry, Engineering, or related field) and 9 years of relevant experience OR a Master's degree and 6 years of relevant experience or a PhD and 4 years of relevant experience OR High School Diploma and 15 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree (see below for relevant experience).
- Relevant experience would include roles in Quality Assurance Engineering, Quality Inspection/Examination, or similar roles requiring understanding and using quality standards and codes for quality program development and implementation, inspection and test planning, or similar activities.
- Relevant experience commensurate with level in a Quality affect field (engineering, operations, manufacturing, etc.).
- Confirmed experience with ASME Codes and ASME NQA-1 is required
- Must be able to obtain BEA Quality Engineer certification.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an L level security clearance.
Job Information: The pay range for this position is:
- Level 3-Grade 440 ($79,344-$162,732)
- Level 4-Grade 450 ($95,256-$195,288).
- At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use stairs, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms.
