Opportunity

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Software Engineer / Agile Lead to support our Huntsville, AL location.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Software Engineer / Agile Lead to join our dynamic government program office. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the successful execution and delivery of software capabilities through contracted development efforts. You will act as the key technical liaison between government stakeholders and contractor development teams, ensuring that software projects are delivered on schedule and align with the program's strategic objectives. This position requires a unique blend of technical expertise, agile project management skills, and a deep understanding of government acquisition and contracting processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Agile methodologies, preferably with experience with mission-critical software systems, and familiarity with air and missile defense systems.

Duties:

    Lead Agile Development Teams: Guide small teams of software engineers in the design, development, testing, and deployment of mission planning software. Foster a collaborative environment that emphasizes continuous improvement and delivers high-quality results.
  • Scrum Master Duties: Act as Scrum Master or serve in an Agile leadership capacity to ensure the team follows Scrum ceremonies, prioritizes work according to the product backlog, and meets sprint goals.
  • Backlog Management: Work closely with product owners to define, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog, ensuring that development work aligns with customer and business needs.
  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD): Ensure the software development pipeline incorporates CI/CD best practices, including automated testing, integration, and deployment.
  • System Integration: Ensure seamless integration of software components with other systems. Work with other teams to integrate mission planning tools with existing air and missile defense platforms.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee code quality, testing strategies, and review processes to maintain high standards. Promote the use of automated testing and other quality practices within the team.
  • Mentorship and Coaching: Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, helping them grow technically and professionally. Conduct code reviews, provide feedback, and encourage innovation and problem-solving.
  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate with other engineering teams, system architects, and product management to ensure cohesive development efforts and deliver end-to-end solutions that meet user requirements.


Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership role overseeing small Agile development teams.
  • Proven experience in Agile methodologies, specifically Scrum, with hands-on experience in managing product backlogs and sprint planning.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern software integration practices.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python.
  • Hands-on experience with tools like Jira, Git, Jenkins, or similar CI/CD tools.
  • Knowledge of software development practices such as TDD (Test-Driven Development), automated testing, and version control.
  • Strong understanding of system integration, API development, and managing dependencies between different software components.
  • Leadership & Communication: Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to manage and mentor engineers, collaborate with stakeholders, and facilitate Agile ceremonies.
  • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to operate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize important, competing tasks and information.
  • Self-starter that needs little direction/guidance on what next steps are required with projects and demonstrate a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to brief DoD senior leaders and influence decision-making.
  • Flexible and positive attitude in the face of challenges and ambiguity.
  • Ability to take initiative to better support the organization.
  • Must have a current driver's license.
  • Travel: 20%
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Active U.S. DoD Secret clearance is required to perform this work. Candidates are required to have a Secret clearance upon hire, and the ability to maintain this clearance level during employment.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher, from an accredited university, in in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, for the performance of these duties (preferred).

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience working with defense contractors or military systems.
  • Strong background in air & missile defense planning, battle management, or defense-related software systems.
  • Familiarity with knowledge of air and missile defense concepts and existing air and missile defense systems is highly desirable
