Summary: The Quality Improvement Resource Specialist plays a key role in managing, promoting, and developing quality improvement (QI) resources for the area of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) in the American College of Surgeons. This position:



  • Manages several QI resources, including the Case Study Repository (CSR), Quality Framework, and EPoSSI
  • Works in collaboration with other CQI staff to promote additional QI resources (such as ACS Quality Grand Rounds, ACS Quality Improvement Course, QI Microlearning Videos)
  • Manages the Quality Resources inbox
  • Ensures that the QI Resources page on the ACS website is kept up-to-date
  • Works with authors of Case Study Repository submissions to make sure the submissions meet criteria, include all pertinent details, and follow the CSR format
  • Proactively identifies prospective additions to the CSR from abstract submissions to ACS conferences and reaches out to authors of high-quality projects
  • Coordinates interviews with case study authors
  • Gives presentations to quality program participants about available QI resources
  • Provides clinical and QI expertise to CQI instructional designers in the development of new educational materials
  • Provides quality improvement guidance when necessary for ACS initiatives and projects


This exempt position will report to the Instructional Design Manager, CQI in the Division of Research and Optimal Patient Care. It is based in our Chicago office and is a hybrid role: 3 days per week in the office/2 days per week remote.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $83,500 - $92,000 (commensurate with related experience).

Responsibilities:

Resource Management and Development



  • Manage and update various ACS quality improvement resources, including the Case Study Repository and Quality Framework
  • Identify opportunities for the development of new QI resources
  • Research and identify useful QI resources developed by other organizations
  • Analyze and explain which resources should be recommended for specific use cases


Clinical and QI Expertise



  • Provide clinical expertise to other members of the Instructional Design team in the development of CQI courses and other educational materials
  • Provide quality improvement expertise to ACS staff and external partners to support ACS quality programs or related initiatives


Customer Service



  • Manage the Quality Resources inbox and ensure that all messages are addressed in a timely manner
  • Assist Case Study Repository applicants as needed by answering questions about CSR submission requirements and providing feedback on submissions
  • Provide limited QI coaching for participants in some ACS initiatives


Continuous Improvement



  • Champion a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and service excellence
  • Lead efforts to promote quality improvement resources and processes
  • Research and integrate emerging QI best practices to enhance ACS support of quality improvement efforts
  • Identify and address gaps in ACS educational support of quality improvement initiatives and projects
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of quality improvement resources and related processes



Required Education and/or Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • At least 4+ years of clinical and quality improvement experience in healthcare is strongly preferred. Some experience in training/education is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare and customer service is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills along with presentation and public speaking experience and skills are required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat. Advanced Excel skills preferred.
