The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Principal Engineer in the Public Works division within the Community Development & Services Agency. The ideal candidate: Advanced knowledge of civil engineering principles related to land development, water resources, capital improvement projects, or similar public works functions Proven ability to apply sound engineering judgment to complex, varied, and high-impact projects Experience planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating engineering programs and projects Ability to supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate professional and technical engineering staff Experience managing multiple projects and stakeholders in a public or regulatory environment Ability to build productive working relationships across departments and with external agencies Commitment to high standards of professional ethics, public service, and regulatory compliance Ability to work under general direction while exercising independent judgment and initiative Education and Experience: MINIMUM: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in civil engineering, surveying, or a closely related field and five (5) years of professional civil engineering experience which has included one (1) year equivalent to the County’s class of Senior Engineer. PREFERRED: In addition to the minimum, an advanced degree in civil engineering and up to five years of professional civil engineering experience in the design and construction of roads, bridges, drainage structures, and related Public Works facilities with two (2) years in a supervisory or management capacity. Licenses and Certification: Possess a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; maintain throughout employment. Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California. Maintain professional development and continuing education activities for valid certification as required by the position. Certified Floodplain Manager desirable. Special Requirements: Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation which may include Live Scan fingerprinting prior to hire. Attend meetings outside of normal working hours. DMV printout prior to hire. Must file statements of economic interest with the Yuba County Clerk/Recorder.
