What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start May 2026 and continue throughsummerterm (endingapproximately August 2026or later, if available). We ask for a minimum of12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships.Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program.Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About the Team

The Field Quality team's mission is to improve customer experience of Tesla products by reducing field issues.The role is responsible for products such as Powerwall, Megapack and Supercharger and works cross functionally with other engineering and service teams. We are seeking a multi-faceted engineer who will be responsible for all aspects of identifying, analyzing, root causing, implementing countermeasures, and reporting on issues affecting products. To be effective, the Field Quality engineer will need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of our Energy Products and the tools and equipment used in their design and manufacture. They will work with other engineering teams to quickly mitigate and implement countermeasures of field issues to improve quality, reliability, and durability of the products.


What You'll Do
  • Monitorproductsfield performance,identifytrending issues. Prioritize based on severity, occurrence, and/or cost of each failure mode

  • Triage emerging trends and use engineering first principals tocome up withfailure hypothesis

  • Coordinate with field service teams toexpeditereturn of defective hardware for analysis

  • Perform deep-dive data analysis to support root cause investigations

  • Coordinate efforts with the Failure Analysis team toidentifyroot causesof problems

  • Collaborate with engineering, factoryqualityand suppliers to drive containment and corrective action implementation into productionand design

  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and take preventiveaction


What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Electronics Engineering or a related field
  • Prior applicable experience desired; preferably in Failure Analysis, Product Engineering, Quality or Service in consumer electronics or automotive
  • The successful candidate for this position must have a broad engineering background with the ability to work with design engineering, manufacturing, service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement toestablisheffective working relationships within Tesla and outside
  • Ability to use tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data
  • Programming Languages & Tools: SQL, Python,Jupyterhub, Minitab, Tableau, JMP or similar are a strong plus

    Expected Compensation
    $20.00 - $50.00/hour + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
