Position Summary

The Accountant (internal "Level I") supports the day-to-day accounting operations of the company, including general ledger activities, reconciliations, and transactional accounting. This role focuses on accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established policies and procedures, while building a strong foundation in accounting principles and internal controls.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post routine journal entries under supervision (accruals, prepaids, allocations).
  • Perform account reconciliations for balance sheet and selected income statement accounts.
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Support accounts payable and payment posting.
  • Assist with payroll accounting entries and related reconciliations.
  • Maintain supporting schedules for fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and accruals.
  • Research and resolve basic accounting discrepancies and variances.
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests.
  • Follow established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Maintain documentation to support audit and compliance requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience/combined education)
  • 0-2 years of Accounting experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, formulas).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow procedures and meet deadline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a government contracting
  • Exposure to month-end close or reconciliations.
  • ERP system experience (Microsoft Business Central preferred).
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Continuous improvement mindset
