What to Expect
As an Operations Manager on the Battery Cell Formation Team, you will oversee the operations and maintenance of formation and cell packout equipment. Your strategic thinking and exceptional people management skills will be critical in guiding production supervisors and operators to meet business-critical targets for cell delivery to customers. Tesla's 4680 Cell manufacturing will undergo a significant scaleup in production volume, your role in managing cell quality and inventory through formation processes will be pivotal to success.
What You'll Do
- Coach 8 direct reports, including 4 production and 4 maintenance supervisors, to achieve key operations KPIs set and adjusted by you to meet business goals
- Lead team growth from approximately 100 to 150 individuals to support the manufacturing scaleup
- Project and manage the operations budget for consumables, spares, and tools, provisioning for ramp and new equipment integration
- Organize production activities and labor schedules while monitoring and reporting on production KPIs to ensure targets are met
- Collaborate with production control and build planning teams to ensure timely, on-spec, and safe product packout
- Lead kaizen initiatives and track progress on 5S and other identified improvement opportunities
- Oversee preventive maintenance programs for complex manufacturing equipment to optimize performance, MTTR, and MTBF
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of experience leading operations teams in a high-volume manufacturing environment and setting and adjusting KPIs based on business needs
- Degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines
- Experience in team building, coaching, development, and succession planning
- Experience in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs and familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance principles
- Knowledge of 5S, lean manufacturing, or 6-Sigma principles to support process and efficiency improvements
- Command of the English language, both written and verbal with proficiency in MS Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
Essential Physical Demands:
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
- Ability to sit, stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
- Ability to findissues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, or hearing
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: PAPR, safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
