Why This Role Is Critical

We are looking to hire a highly motivated I&C Safety Systems Software Supervisor who leads a team of software engineers responsible for developing, implementing, and verifying safetyrelated digital instrumentation and control (I&C) software for commercial nuclear power plant modernization projects. This role combines technical leadership with direct individualcontributor responsibilities, ensuring that software meets nuclear regulatory requirements, functional safety expectations, and systemlevel architectural needs. The supervisor oversees team performance, mentors engineers, and contributes personally to software design, implementation, and lifecycle documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Management

    Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers working on safetyclass digital I&C systems.
  • Plan and allocate work across the team, ensuring alignment with project schedules, quality expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct technical reviews of software requirements, design artifacts, code, and test results.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and professional development for team members.
  • Coordinate with system architects, hardware engineering, licensing, quality assurance, and project management to ensure integrated, compliant solutions.
  • Represent the software team in customer meetings, audits, and regulatory interactions.

Individual Contributor Responsibilities

  • Develop safetycritical software for reactor protection systems, engineered safety features actuation, and other safetyclass functions.
  • Translate system and regulatory requirements into detailed software requirements and design specifications.
  • Implement software using qualified tools and methods appropriate for nuclear safety applications.
  • Perform engineering test activities and formal reviews.
  • Prepare and maintain lifecycle documentation, ensuring full traceability and compliance with nuclear standards.
  • Contribute to hazard analyses, FMEA, and software inputs to the safety case.

Compliance and Technical Excellence

  • Ensure adherence to nuclear and safetycritical software standards such as IEC 60880, IEC 62138, IEEE 74.3.2, IEC 61513, IEEE 1012 and NRC regulatory guidance.
  • Support configuration management, change control, and software quality assurance processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement of software development practices, tools, and workflows.
  • Participate in digital modernization initiatives and evaluation of emerging technologies relevant to nuclear safety systems.

  • Ensures projects, initiatives, and processes comply with established policies, objectives and customer standards.
  • Ensures adherence to government, organization and customer engineering standards and procedures.
  • Monitors goals, objectives and standards of performance for assigned team members.
  • Works interactively with customers and clients to develop strong relationships.
  • Researches and assesses best practices, proposing methods and improvements.
  • Works on special projects, as directed. Performs other related duties and tasks, as required.


What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
    • Dependent on the position, degrees in Physics, Engineering Technology and Engineering Science may also be accepted.
  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques and criteria.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, management and customers as required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships; work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Advanced problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to manage multiple tasks and projects through subordinates.
  • Strong analytical ability and problem identification/problem resolution skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with specialized software tools and programming languages as required by the role.
  • Understanding of deterministic real time software behavior, embedded systems, and safety critical design principles.
  • Experience developing software for safety critical or regulated environments (nuclear, aerospace, medical, rail, or industrial control).
  • Proficiency with programming languages and tools used in qualified development environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, manage workload, and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with digital safety platforms (e.g., FPGA based systems, safety PLCs, certified DCS platforms).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity requirements for nuclear digital systems.
  • Experience supporting licensing submittals, audits, or regulatory inspections.

Total Rewards Package

  • Salary: $115,000 - $156,000 and may also include annual incentives and performance bonuses. The base salary range is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
