JOB OVERVIEW:

The Repair Technician is responsible for attempted repairs including both minor repairs consisting of tightening and adjustment of components to more extensive repairs like Drill & Tap, Wire Wrap and Hot Bolting on Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) regulatory leaking components authorized by the site. Must possess a firm understanding of AEM's

Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Health & Safety Management System. In addition, this position may be required to perform Environmental Monitoring Field Technician duties for daily LDAR component monitoring and inventory maintenance. This position may be required to perform other monitoring and observation tasks associated with other environmental compliance requirements existing at their work sites.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:



  • Perform all work in a safe and healthy manner and ensure safety culture and environment. Participate in weekly safety meetings and ensure all safety standards are met as per AEM SOP requirements. Perform a visual assessment of leaking components before making any repairs within the guidelines prescribed by the client.
  • Perform minor repairs on all LDAR regulatory leaks reported by AEM's monitoring technicians.

    • Tightening Packing Bolts
    • Steaming
    • Replacing Plugs
    • Replacing Caps
    • Tightening Bonnet Bolts


  • Repairs will be required to be performed under the following field operational conditions:

    • Line Pressures 600 pounds per square inch (psi)
    • Line temperature 0 - 1200F max
    • Line service: Light liquid, Gas vapor, Heavy liquid.


  • The use of additional safety or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: Face shield, chemical suit for acid products, body harness and lanyard, and lock out/tag out.
  • Working at heights. (Man lift, scissors lift, extension ladder, A-frame ladder etc.)
  • Communicate with Site Supervisor along with facility Operations and Maintenance lead personnel regarding the scheduling of any additional required repairs.
  • Proficient in operating hand tools and knowledge of special tools (i.e. battery operated drill, pneumatic drill, pneumatic impact, hand pump, pneumatic pump).
  • Obtain proper work permit according to site requirements.
  • Conduct re-monitoring inspection of repaired leaks.
  • Report any unsuccessful repairs to the Site Supervisor.
  • Perform Environmental Monitoring Technician duties as needed (see job description for details).
  • Willingness to perform other assigned duties.



TRAINING AND TESTING REQUIREMENTS:



  • Completion of AEM's pre-employment physical exam, drug and alcohol testing.
  • Successfully passing any site-specific drug and/or alcohol testing.
  • Successful completion of any regional specific training programs associated by local or state agencies (e.g., Los Angeles County Refinery Safety Overview training program).
  • Completion of Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program followed by verification via a TWIC card.
  • General Human Resources training for company, state and federal policies and requirements.
  • Thorough overview of AEM's Health & Safety Management System.
  • Completion of Site-Specific training programs and thorough understanding of all site-specific rules, policies and requirements.



QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High school diploma or equivalent. Associate technical degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of leak sealant experience required.
  • Ability to identify the various component types that will be encountered.
  • The knowledge needed to know what type of minor repair will and will not be appropriate for certain types of components found leaking.
  • When it is appropriate and not appropriate to attempt a Drill & Tap, Wire Wrap and Hot Bolting repair technique.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and aptitude in working with and repairing mechanical devices.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic pumps, hand pumps, pneumatic impacts, and other sealant tools.
  • Ability to withstand prolonged walking and standing and work on elevated surfaces.
  • Ability to be organized and work in a systematic and efficient manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal English.
  • Proficiency in various types of LDAR data management programs along with ability to use basic software programs like Microsoft Word and Excel, Outlook email.
  • High level of knowledge and understanding of AEM's Standard Operating Procedures.
  • High level of knowledge and understanding of AEM's Health & Safety Management System.
  • Knowledge of refining process equipment (i.e., exchanger, vessel, pump, compressor, etc.) and how they mechanically operate.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group setting.
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Outdoor work in petroleum, refinery or chemical processing facility walking and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Adverse weather conditions (extreme hot/cold and inclement weather.)
  • Technician will carry a testing device, data logger, hand tools and miscellaneous equipment that weigh about 15-20 lbs. The testing device is carried in a backpack. Other tools or equipment are carried on a tool belt or in pockets.
  • The work involves walking up stairs and climbing vertical ladders and working from heights with fall protection equipment while wearing such equipment described above.
  • All outdoor work is performed wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), which includes a hardhat, fire retardant coveralls, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety boots and when required, a 5- point safety harness.
