About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants' Sustainability Team is looking for a Sustainability Intern to assist during the 2026 summer. The selected intern will support a diverse set of sustainability projects and will work with sustainability focused professionals. This position provides great opportunities for an Intern to enter and launch a career in sustainability, supported by leadership focused on the professional development of team members.

This is a paid, 40-hour per week internship. This is a distributed position, but it is preferred that the candidate be near the Denver, CO office and will be paid $19.95 per hour if located in the CO area.

This position requires a demonstrated interest in sustainability, a good attitude, willingness to learn, flexibility, and good communication skills. This internship will occur during the summer 2026 (June 1st -mid August). Candidates who can start earlier than June 2026 will be considered and those who can remain past August may provide additional value. In addition to project work, the internship program includes regularly scheduled presentations by SWCA leaders.

What you will accomplish

  • Research and summarize emerging sustainability trends and best practices.
  • Explore and evaluate components of competitor sustainability reports.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop and share updates on internal sustainability initiatives.
  • Assist the Sustainability Team in the development of internal sustainability resources, tools, and deliverables.
  • Assist with planning, communication, and execution of sustainability-related events.
  • Help manage and maintain SWCA's Sustainability Badge Program, which helps offices track and celebrate local sustainability efforts.
  • Support sustainability data management, including organizing, tracking, and basic analysis.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university, pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Sustainability; Economics; Environmental Engineering; or another related field with coursework in environmental sciences, sustainability, or similar study focus; or a recent graduate within 12 months of May 1, 2026. Candidates with equivalent work experience will also be considered.
  • Applicants that are pursuing a master's degree will also be considered. Ph.D. candidates are not eligible for this program.
  • Must have good communication, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting and collaborate with others.
