| Position Highlights |
The Coordinator, Student Engagement is a key member of the Residential Education team. The coordinator is responsible for the development and promotion of residential leadership initiatives, including student housing organizations and campus-wide programming. This position serves as the primary advisor to the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) and coordinates the late-night campus committee programming for Cats After Dark. This position also contributes to Housing & Residential Life's student leadership commitment through serving on various departmental and campus committees.
Housing & Residential Life (Housing), a self-funded auxiliary housed within Campus Life at the University of Arizona, operates 23 dorms and 1 graduate apartment complex that house over 8,000 students annually on the University of Arizona Main Campus. More than 80% of on-campus residents are first-year students. Our dorms range in style from historic to modern and range in size from 60 to 1000 residents. While the University does not require students to live on campus, more than 70% of all incoming first-year students choose to live in UA housing to help their transition to university life. | Duties & Responsibilities |
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the primary advisor to the Residence Hall Association (RHA), National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), or Cat's After Dark (CAD) ensuring the implementation of programs and initiatives.
- Hold one on one meetings with the Executive Board members of the organizations.
- Attend weekly Executive Board and General Body meetings for each organization.
- Counsel and advise student leaders on department and University policies, procedures, and resources; provide on-going support and accountability to selected and elected student leaders.
- Travel, or send designee, with RHA and NRHH to all state, regional, and national conferences as well as organizational retreats.
- Provide guidance for Hall Councils across campus (24 dorms), including supporting Hall Council Advisors.
- Oversee management of assigned organization's budget.
- Empower hall leaders to be actively engaged in the campus community.
- Create engagement plans to promote leadership development within the dorms.
- Oversee Department Amenities program-coordinate between RHA, CAD, Hall Councils, Community Directors, and Desk Operations.
- Implement events with assigned Student Leadership Organization.
- Develop partnerships across campus that contribute to a collaborative approach to late-night campus programming.
- Manage relationships with vendors as related to programming.
- Oversee Discovery Communities through event planning, meeting facilitation, and collaboration with dorm staff.
- Host monthly meetings with all discovery community students.
- Create engagement plans to promote focused development within the assigned discovery community.
- Evaluate and assess Discovery Community initiatives.
- Assist with Discovery Community early move in program.
- Represent Department on campus-wide committees such as Campus Use Committee and Wildcat Welcome Week.
- Evaluate and assess leadership initiatives.
- Identify and use scholarly, ethical and positive practices to support student participation and engagement in residential communities.
- Contribute to student and professional staff training, selection, and related committees as requested.
- Serve on-call providing campus-wide elevated support to on call staff.
- Be available through cell phone and remote connectivity.
- Assist with various departmental activities during the August and January student move in process.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people while recognizing unique student needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of student organizations and student development theory.
- Knowledge in budget development, management, and oversight.
- Familiarity working with a residential curriculum.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of leadership styles.
- Skills necessary to respond to internal and external customer needs in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
- Ability to facilitate group development within professional and student audiences.
- Ability to form and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
- Ability to conduct assessment and evaluation of residential life leadership initiatives, interpret and report data, compare data to benchmarking data and stay current with trends in leadership education.
SUPPLEMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Housing & Residential Life is a security sensitive department, and this position requires a finger-print criminal background check.
- Motor Vehicle Division check required. Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to
the University Fleet Safety Policy.
