Position Summary: The Assistant General Counsel, Litigation serves as a key member of the Company's Legal department and plays a leading role in managing the Company's active litigation and regulatory matters. They handle complex commercial litigation matters and work closely across the Company's departments to minimize risk while achieving strategic initiatives. The Assistant General Counsel, Litigation collaborates with the larger in-house Legal team, Program Managers, Law Enforcement Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, Product Management, Security, Finance, HR, and SIG leadership. FLSA: Exempt Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the Company's litigation, including professional liability and general liability claims, class action claims, employment litigation, contractual disputes, internal investigations, and other litigation matters.
- Prepare periodic reporting for the General Counsel that summarizes and distills the status of the Company's litigation portfolio.
- Prepare for and attend select arbitrations, mediations, settlement conferences, critical depositions, significant hearings, and trials.
- Operations Manager for the oversight of litigation and regulatory compliance that utilizes data to drive results and advance business objectives.
- Act as a valued member of team in developing a litigation strategy when managing workouts or other special situations.
- Assist in designing and overseeing the company's regulatory compliance program.
- Identify, design, develop and implement processes and tools, in collaboration with the Legal department.
- Assist with due diligence and other pertinent workstreams.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders, partners and outside counsel to manage risk effectively.
- Periodic travel may be required.
- Engage in and actively volunteer for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.
- Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
- Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education/Experience & Skills:
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school required, admission to, and good standing in, any state bar or the District of Columbia bar. 10+ years of experience in litigation practice at a law firm and/or in-house environment, with experience in product liability claims preferred. Experience with insured litigation and claims disputes preferred. Firearms industry experience preferred.
- Ability to organize, integrate and analyze complex information from a number of sources.
- Sound and ethical judgment based on legal expertise, a deep understanding of the business objectives and an appropriate balancing of legal risks and business needs.
- Process oriented and able to lead and effect process change and improvements. Excellent drafting, organization, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) required.
- Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
- Collaborative; able to establish and maintain strong partnerships with all stakeholders, ensuring their involvement and gaining their support to drive desired outcomes.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to think strategically and provide critical analysis.
Working Conditions:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
- Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
