Job Summary

The Radiation Safety Specialist 2serves as a lead for EH&S supporting radiotherapies for UCSF Health. The main scope of duties include helping prepare and decontaminate rooms used for in-patient radiation therapies, inspecting lead aprons, assisting in radioactive clearance/decommissioning activities, and assisting as needed in the receiving radioactive materials and managing of radioactive waste generated in the hospital. The radiation safety specialist works with other senior radiation safety specialists and serves as a team leader for setting up, surveying, and decontaminating patient rooms used for radiation therapies.

The Office of Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) is responsible for promoting environmental stewardship and a safe workplace at UCSF while helping to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to occupational safety and the environment.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $34.48 - $74.04 (Step Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Office of Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) is responsible for promoting environmental stewardship and a safe workplace at UCSF while helping to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to occupational safety and the environment.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Solid, comprehensive working knowledge / understanding of a specific EH&S field including related laws and regulations, and general understanding of all EH&S fields
  • Solid organizational skills to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple projects
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively in a diverse environment
  • Working skills in the appropriate use of technology and relevant scientific equipment as required
  • Valid California Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications


  • DOT certification for shipping hazardous materials
  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER

License/Certification


  • Valid California Driver's License
