A Brief Overview Primary responsibilities of this role include working with the leadership of Diagnostic Services, QA and Regulatory Support to manage the rodent health surveillance program, oversee importation/exportation of research animals, and to perform routine quality assurance assessment of the vivaria and associated equipment.
This position will also be intimately involved with the controlled substance program and related recordkeeping and training. This position will assist with investigator animal use training and provide additional research support, as needed.
What you will do
- Quality Assurance:
- Under the direction of Diagnostic Services leadership, assist with management of the rodent health surveillance and quarantine programs
- Conduct necropsies and collect biological samples for diagnostics to include parasitology, bacteriology, serology, and histopathology
- Perform quality assurance of equipment and sanitation procedures
- Perform routine quality assurance inspections of the vivaria and associated equipment
- Develop and update departmental standard operating procedures and policies
- Research Support:
- Under the direction of the Diagnostic Services leadership, assist with management of the centralized controlled substances program
- Coordinate animal importation from commercial and non-commercial sources
- Coordinate animal exportation ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations
- Advise investigators and program staff regarding procedural issues
- Provide oversight of the rodent quarantine and necropsy suites
- Training:
- Train investigator staff on controlled substance policies and procedures
- Develop, maintain, and update training materials related to controlled substance use in animal research
- General Administrative:
- Maintain detailed animal health and diagnostic test records
- Maintain records in accordance with relevant agency guidelines to include the state of Pennsylvania, Public Health Service, the USDA, and AAALAC
- Order and manage relevant supply inventory
- Track and submit charges for billing purposes
- Develop and update relevant content for the DVR intranet website
- Other duties as assigned
Education Qualifications
- Associate's Degree Required
- Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- At least one (1) year of laboratory animal facility experience Required
- At least one (1) year of quality related experience Preferred
- At least three (3) years of quality assurance experience Preferred
- At least three (3) years of experience in an AAALAC-accredited laboratory animal facility Preferred

- Advanced knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements related to animals care/use in research (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications
- Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) - American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) - upon hire - Preferred

$56,890.00 - $71,110.00 Annually
