JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State Lehigh Valley LaunchBox is currently accepting applications for Camp Resident Assistants for the Teen Entrepreneurship Challenge camp at the Penn State Berks campus.

Resident Assistants are peer leaders who reside in the residence hall with TEC campers (high school students in grades 9-12). RAs serve as program planners, conflict mediators, policy enforcers, and a resource during classroom sessions. This role is highly supervisory and includes facilitating structured evening programming and maintaining youth program compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide residential supervision coverage (with shifts) to ensure campers are safe, supported, and accounted for during transitions.

  • Maintain high visibility on the assigned residence hall floor; conduct scheduled rounds and headcounts as directed.

  • Support faculty sessions (9:00 AM-12:00 PM and 1:00-4:00 PM) and evening industry partner sessions (6:00 PM-8:00 PM): assist with engagement, classroom norms, and group dynamics.

  • Facilitate evening programming (8:00-10:00 PM): plan and lead community-building, team-building, and entrepreneurship-adjacent activities aligned to TEC outcomes.

  • Implement and enforce policies, curfews, and behavioral expectations; intervene early and de-escalate conflicts respectfully.

  • Document incidents and report any disciplinary, safety, wellness, or compliance concerns to the Program Director immediately.

  • Follow strict youth safety boundaries: no one-on-one closed-door interactions; use buddy system; no visitors in student areas; no off-campus trips.

  • Redirect all parent/guardian inquiries to the Program Director.

Required Availability

  • Mandatory pre-camp training/orientation (date TBD by Program Director).
  • Residential commitment for the full week of camp, including early mornings and late evenings (typical day starts 6:30 AM; lights out at 10:00 PM).
  • Ability to work assigned shifts and remain on campus during RA coverage times.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current college student or recent graduate (preferred).
  • Experience working with youth (camp, mentoring, tutoring, coaching, residence life, or similar).
  • Strong communication skills; ability to model professionalism and inclusive leadership.
  • Ability to enforce rules consistently and respond calmly under pressure.
  • Willingness to complete required background clearances and youth protection trainings prior to the program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior residential camp or residence life experience.
  • Facilitation experience (leading groups, activities, icebreakers, or workshops).
  • Interest in entrepreneurship, business, leadership development, or education.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Free housing and meals during the week of camp.
  • Hourly pay: $13.19/hour plus overtime.
