Day Camp Recreation Lead

Position Summary: The Day Camp Recreation Lead is responsible for planning and execution of elective recreation, group games, crafts, Bible study, music and other activities for youth ages 5-11 during Summer Day Camp. This position also supports camper supervision, promotes participation and positive behavior, maintains supplies and program areas, and ensures compliance with safety, Safe From Harm, and state childcare licensing guidelines. Assists with documentation, staff collaboration, and transportation coordination as needed.

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Plan and implement all elective activities such as recreation, Bible study, swimming, group games, crafts, music and more for groups of youth ages 5-11, both on-site and while on field trips.
  • Encourage participation in all aspects of the Summer Day Camp.
  • Gather needed supplies, requesting purchases as needed.
  • Inventory and maintain all resources used and assigned.
  • Assist counselors in supervising an assigned group of youth ages 5-11 participating in the activities.
  • Assist with mediating any behavior problems between campers that may arise.
  • Assist with the care and well-being of program participants and be aware of and follow all safety precautions and procedures, administering emergency first aid as needed and recording such treatment with proper documentation.
  • Responsible for knowing Safe From Harm program guidelines and following them.
  • Responsible for adhering to state childcare licensing guidelines, as instructed by supervisors.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of areas used.
  • Complete all paperwork and administrative duties, as assigned.
  • Conform to the weekly schedule and attend all staff meetings.
  • Communicate scheduling and other concerns in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Additional Responsibilities



  • Provide transportation and logistics leadership while on field trips.



Qualifications:



  • Must be at least 21 years old



Education/Experience:



  • High School Diploma/ GED or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience working with youth


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:



  • Ability to lead and participate in group activities
  • Ability to plan recreational activities, group games, crafts, bible studies, music, etc.
  • Some knowledge or training in food handling and food service operations.


Computer Skills:



  • Basic knowledge of computer systems
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office 365 (preferred)


Certificates and Licenses:



  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Current First Aid / CPR certification, or ability to be certified within 30 days
  • Must have and maintain a current valid driver's license and pass The Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
