Research Lab Tech I, DOM Infectious Disease

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Oversee management of databases and sample inventories
2. Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine tests following established methodologies. Routine tests may include processing of blood and respiratory samples, RNA and DNA extraction, PCR, real-time PCR, and viral sequencing.
3. Prepares laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments, and equipment.
4. Maintains supplies inventory in accordance with departmental procedures.
5. Works closely with PI and other members of the laboratory.
6. All other duties as assigned.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable):

EDUCATION:

BS or BA required. (In a biological/physical science highly preferred.)

EXPERIENCE: Prior laboratory experience, either through academic coursework, internships, or employment 0-1+ years preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in BL2+ laboratory with infectious HIV-1 and respiratory virus patient samples

- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey experimental procedures, results, and challenges.
