The University is seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable Director of Maintenance Services to lead the daily operations, maintenance, and repair of approximately 13 million square feet of university property. | Duties & Responsibilities |
OPERATIONS & SKILLED TRADES MANAGEMENT:
- Direct,
supervise, and develop a large team of skilled trades professionals across disciplines. - Oversee
maintenance and repair of research labs, restaurant spaces, classrooms, and administrative spaces. - Ensure safe and
efficient operations of all building systems and utility infrastructure. - Direct
supervisor of the following shops: Renovations, Carpentry, Flooring, Doors, Paint/Sign, Welding/Sheet Metal, Roofing, Special Projects (maintenance, deferred maintenance), and Work Control.
STRATEGIC PLANNING, BUDGETING AND CAPITAL PROJECTS:
- Develop and
manage annual operating budgets. - Implement
long-range maintenance plans and capital renewal strategies, including preventative maintenance and deferred maintenance. Ensure inspections are completed in buildings throughout campus and outside properties. - Collaborate
with Design & Construction and Capital Projects teams on renovations and new construction. - Oversee all warranty work with new buildings and renovations.
- Provide
technical input and review during design and construction phases.
COMPLIANCE, SAFETY & ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT:
- Manage staff,
ensuring compliance with university policies. - Ensure
compliance with building codes, OSHA, EPA, ADA, and other relevant regulations. - Promote a
culture of safety and continuous improvement. - Support energy
efficiency and sustainability initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of NFPA
(National Fire Protection Association) and local codes. - Knowledge of
building codes. - Excellent
attention to detail and a drive to complete all work on time and on budget. - Ability to
follow detailed procedures and ensure accuracy in documentation and routine details. - Ability to
develop and maintain a high performing team. - Strong
communication skills. - Proficiency
with computer skills, MS Excel, and email. - Strong customer
service skills and communications. - Ability to read
and interpret code related requirements in documents such as University of Arizona codes, ordinances adopted fire codes and standards, reports, plans and other documents. - Ability to perform
math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, algebra, fire flow, fire protection systems, plans, review occupancy load and egress locations determined by calculations and formulas including equations, geometry, algebra, powers, and volume measurements and hydraulic calculations. - Ability to write
clear organized documents. - Ability to manage
stressful, negative interactions with high levels of tact and excellent interpersonal skills. - Out of town and weekend work required.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Seven years of related work experience, including 3 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

- Contractor's license.
- Experience working in a college/university setting.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or related field.
- Project management and construction and/or renovation experience.
