Purpose of the role

Play an integral role in shaping how planning and scheduling supports project delivery across the organization. As Senior Manager, Planning/Scheduling, you will lead strategic planning and scheduling functions to ensure alignment between project execution and broader organizational objectives.

You will be responsible for establishing robust planning frameworks, driving consistency in scheduling practices and ensuring teams have the insights they need to deliver projects safely, efficiently and on time. Working across multiple projects and teams, you will influence decision-making, support operational leaders and help guide tactical execution to achieve business goals.

This role combines leadership, technical expertise and strategic thinking. You will oversee teams, guide the development of scheduling systems and processes, and collaborate with stakeholders across the business to improve project outcomes.

Core Responsibilities

You will be responsible for leading and strengthening planning and scheduling capabilities across programs and projects, including:

  • Leading planning and scheduling activities across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with operational and organizational objectives

  • Developing and implementing planning frameworks, processes and standards that support consistent and reliable project delivery

  • Overseeing the development, maintenance and analysis of project schedules, ensuring accurate forecasting of timelines, resources and deliverables

  • Providing strategic guidance to project teams on schedule performance, risk mitigation and recovery planning

  • Troubleshooting scheduling challenges and developing tactical solutions to support successful project execution

  • Influencing outcomes across teams and functions through collaboration and effective communication with senior leaders and stakeholders

  • Supporting the design and implementation of new planning concepts, methodologies and scheduling tools that enhance project performance

  • Managing, mentoring and developing planning and scheduling professionals, including oversight of staffing, performance and capability development

  • Ensuring systems, processes and tools related to planning and scheduling are applied consistently and effectively across projects

  • Communicating complex schedules, performance insights and recommendations clearly to senior leadership and key stakeholders

  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen project controls, planning accuracy and operational performance


What you'll bring to the role

What you'll bring to the role is a strong combination of leadership, technical knowledge and the ability to influence outcomes in complex project environments.

Key qualifications and capabilities include:

  • A university degree in engineering, project management, construction management or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience

  • Typically 15+ years of experience in planning, scheduling, project controls or related project delivery roles

  • Demonstrated experience leading planning and scheduling teams across complex, multi-disciplinary projects or programs

  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle planning, including schedule development, progress tracking, forecasting and recovery planning

  • Proven ability to interpret broad organizational goals and translate them into actionable project planning strategies

  • Deep knowledge of scheduling systems, processes and industry tools used for project planning and performance analysis

  • Experience implementing and improving planning and scheduling systems, processes or digital tools

  • Strong leadership capability with experience managing teams, developing talent and fostering collaborative working environments

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to senior leaders

  • A collaborative mindset and participative leadership style that encourages teamwork and shared success

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues and develop practical, results-focused solutions

  • The ability to work across functions, influence decision-making and guide teams through organizational or project change
