The Associate Director, Internal Communications will help shape and deliver internal communications for Optum Health, with a solid focus on leadership and executive communications. This role supports how we inform, engage, and connect employees to our strategy, priorities, and culture. The work includes planning and executing leadership communications, employee campaigns, and high visibility forums such as town halls and leadership meetings.

This role partners closely with senior leaders and cross functional teams to ensure messages are clear, human centered, and aligned to business goals. Success in this role requires solid judgment, excellent writing skills, and comfort advising leaders in a fast paced, complex environment.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and execution of internal communications strategies that connect employees to Optum Health's mission, strategy, and priorities
  • Develop content for leadership meetings, all employee town halls, and other leadership forums
  • Support executive communications, including internal speaking engagements and signature leadership channels
  • Create clear, engaging, human centered content for a variety of internal channels and audiences
  • Contribute to employee campaigns and storytelling efforts that reinforce business priorities and culture
  • Partner with stakeholders across communications, marketing, clinical, operations, people team, legal, and other functions to ensure alignment and message consistency
  • Help assess the effectiveness of communications and bring forward recommendations for improvement
  • Manage multiple projects at once while maintaining high quality and meeting deadlines

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in communications, with demonstrated success supporting senior leaders
  • Demonstrated sound writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, compelling messages
  • Experience developing and executing strategic communications plans
  • Project management experience and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills and experience working across teams in a matrixed organization
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a strategic partner, collaborate with internal stakeholders to proactively assess and address needs, and develop and implement strategic communication plans, vehicles, and messaging
  • Demonstrated ability to provide professional writing samples

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Health care or health related communications experience
  • Experience supporting executive or CEO communications
  • Experience measuring and improving communication effectiveness
  • Comfort advising senior leaders and building trusted relationships

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
