Summary:

Oversees the daily work of Lab Assistants in the general operation of assigned area. Performs waived and moderate complexity testing, demonstrating strong proficiency in operation of instrumentation as required. Prepares schedules for Lab Assistants, finds coverage as needed, order supplies, maintains equipment, and effectively assesses problems and provides/proposes solutions to management. Provides general assistance to clinical floor staff as needed.

Type of Opportunity: Full time FTE: 1.00 Job Exempt: No Work Shift: 12 Hour Days (United States of America)

Responsibilities:

*Serves as lab liaison with other departments or sites by maintaining communication between staff, Supervisor/Manager, and other relevant personnel.
*Prepares staff schedules and ensures appropriate lab coverage for the site. Provides coverage as necessary.
*Effectively assesses problems and provides solutions to management as necessary.
*Maintain appropriate QA documentation, determine causes, and take corrective action as able to eliminate problems/errors.
*Performs daily, weekly, and monthly QC activities including putting QC on instruments. Performs QC procedures according to protocol and maintains current quality control documentation.
*Maintains assigned lab area according to COLA guidelines and other relevant guidelines as necessary.
*Schedule and assist with training as necessary.
*Performs phlebotomy and other collection procedures appropriately and according to established procedures.
*Performs specialized collection procedures such as urine drug collections and PPD's if required.
*Processes requisitions and enters test orders into the computer system. Performs inquiry functions, specimen transport verification, and retrieves and prints collection labels.
*Receives, processes and/or stores specimens as appropriate, centrifuging, splitting, acidifying, aliquoting, measuring and stabilizing. Performs biohazard disposal as needed or appropriate.
*Performs routine equipment maintenance and function checks including routine pipette calibration if required.
*Orders and maintains supplies and inventory.
*Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies.
*Assists clinical floor staff with stocking supplies, cleaning, patient transport and other tasks as necessary.
*Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required.
Nine months of phlebotomy experience.
Preference of PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
Point of care, waived, and moderate complexity testing experience preferred, as well as laboratory specimen handling and testing.
Competent phlebotomy skills.
Effective communication skills, team-oriented, multi-tasker, organized, able to work in a fast- paced environment.
Good analytical skills.
Be on call as needed or required; work holidays, evenings and weekends as required.
