Environmental Operations Specialist Chiquita Canyon Landfill - Castaic, CA Full-Time * Salaried * All in compensation: $120,000-$140,000 (including cash + equity bonus) About the Role The Environmental Operations Specialist plays an essential supporting role at Chiquita Canyon Landfill. This position works directly under the Environmental Manager to ensure that daytoday compliance activities, operational data tracking, and routine environmental tasks are completed accurately, timely, and in alignment with regulatory requirements. This is a handson, task-oriented role wellsuited for someone who is organized, detail-driven, and comfortable working across multiple operational functions. While not a managerial position, it is highly visible and integral to the smooth operation of environmental compliance processes at the site. Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Site Leadership Group with daily compliance tasks, documentation, and routine operational support activities.
- Maintain environmental records, databases, logs, and other required documentation to support ongoing regulatory obligations.
- Coordinate the preparation and distribution of communications related to environmental notifications, community updates, or routine operational changes.
- Help facilitate various environmental monitoring activities by organizing schedules, tracking data, and ensuring followup actions are recorded and completed.
- Support operational departments with data entry, administrative tasks, and systems updates associated with environmental, engineering, or operational programs.
- Support analysis of groundwater, stormwater, and wastewater data, preparing technical summaries and regulatory reports.
- Support Environmental Manager with leachate trucking operations, ensuring compliant routing, manifests, and disposal.
- Support development and improvement of SOPs, training programs, and environmental documentation.
- Coordinate consultants and contractors tasks to ensure quality, consistency, and timely deliverables.
- Serve as a resource for troubleshooting basic technical issues related to software, tracking tools, or equipmentrelated systems used by the environmental team.
- Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to gather information, assist with project-related tasks, and make sure environmental procedures are followed consistently.
- Provide general support during peak workload periods, special projects, or when the Environmental Manager, Remediation Project Engineer, or District Manager require assistance on timesensitive tasks.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety standards, including proper use of personal protective equipment when entering operational areas.
- Perform regular fieldwork, including exposure to landfill gas, odors, noise, chemicals, and varying weather conditions.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental or Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
- 2+ years of environmental compliance experience in a heavily regulated industry (waste industry experience preferred).
- Strong organizational abilities with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to independently manage assigned tasks and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Ability to read, interpret, and evaluate analytical data and laboratory reports (sampling experience a plus).
- Comfort working with multiple software programs, data systems, and electronic records, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and environmental data analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical reporting and regulator correspondence.
- Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently under time constraints and handle multiple assignments at once.
- Commitment to safe work practices and willingness to use PPE when required.
- Valid driver's license; willingness to travel up to 5% and work occasional weekends as needed.
Work Environment This is a five-day, on-site role with limited travel and regular fieldwork.
