Basic Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related Science, Technology or Mathematics field. Also requires 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job-related experience.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is obtainable within a reasonable amount of time after hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.


Responsibilities for this Position

Join General Dynamics Mission Systems and lead a talented team of software engineers who are solving some of the world's most complex challenges. We are seeking a dynamic Software Technical Manager to blend strong leadership with deep technical expertise. In this role, you will be responsible for defining the technology and process strategy for your domain, driving the career development of your team members, and ensuring the technical and financial success of the projects they support.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, Mentor, and Develop:
    • Guide, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, fostering their career growth and accelerating their integration.
    • Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
    • Collaboratively work with technical manager peers to develop and drive organizational objectives and processes.
    • Handle all personnel matters, including merit planning, performance reviews, and team assignments to ensure project success.
  • Ensure Technical Excellence:
    • Take overall responsibility for the engineering aspects of a technical domain, from architecture and design to implementation and support.
    • Provide technical oversight, ensure the use of appropriate engineering practices, manage risk, and guide the team in resolving complex technical issues.
    • Participate in developing technical and teaming strategies and ensure your team is active in developing and managing risk mitigation plans.
  • Drive Project Execution:
    • Direct and coordinate the planning, organization, and completion of engineering efforts.
    • Oversee project planning, resource allocation, and budget management, acting as a Cost Account Manager (CAM) within an Earned Value Management (EVM) framework.
    • Monitor project status, schedules, and key performance indicators (SPI/CPI) to meet all cost, schedule, and quality objectives.
  • Foster Collaboration and Improvement:
    • Serve as a key liaison between your team, project management, and customers.
    • Spearhead initiatives to formalize processes, improve efficiency, and address gaps in team training and onboarding.
    • Participate in the proposal process, developing executable project plans and ensuring process compliance for all engineering activities.

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience in a leadership role, such as an Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead, with a strong ability to recruit, manage, and develop engineering talent.
  • A strong technical background in software engineering, with experience in C++ and/or Java and the ability to guide technical strategy and decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge communication across diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and complex tasks.
  • A deep understanding of project leadership principles, including organizational and project metrics.

  • Experience in a project leadership role as an IPT Lead or EVMS CAM.
  • Demonstrated experience driving continuous improvement initiatives, such as developing training curriculums or normalizing processes for engineering teams.

Target salary range: USD $140,421.00/Yr. - USD $155,780.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
