Primary Function

Provides preventive dental care, periodontal therapy, and oral health education within a high-security detention clinic. Works under the direction of the Dentist.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform oral prophylaxis, periodontal charting, scaling/rootplanning, and sealants per scope.
• Obtain and evaluate radiographs;identifypathology and refer to dentist as needed.
• Maintain infection control, sterilization, and instrument processing logs.
• Educate patients on oral hygiene and coordinate recall intervals.
• Support emergency response within scope (e.g., dental trauma first aid).
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with federal privacy standards.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a CODA accredited dental hygiene program.
• Current state license and registration/certification asrequired; radiography certification as applicable.
• BLS/CPR certification.
• Ability to obtain and maintain necessary clearances and credentials required for access to detention facilities.
• Meet the requirements of the contract for all immunizations.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must be a US citizen or permanent resident, resided in the U.S. for 3 years in the past 5 years.
• Must complete all required training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual (English/Spanish or other relevant languages) preferred.
• Experience with diverse and high-risk populations.
• At least 2 years of experience as a dental hygienist.
• Has undergone a federal investigation at the level of Tier 2 or higher; has been grantedfavorable suitability/eligibility and has not had a break in service for more than 24 months.
• Detention center experience.

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions

• Work is performed in a secure detention facility.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Exposure to emotionally challenging situations.
