The University is seeking an ideal candidate to fill a Behavioral Health Counselor II position. This position provides mental health triage, brief individual and group counseling, support groups, and referral services to U of A undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The counselor also participates in outreach, consultation, and crisis response activities as assigned, with a focus on delivering services that are professional, culturally responsive, and supportive of student populations. Services are provided under the guidance of senior clinical staff as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, as well as interfacing with the Campus Health Service (CHS) medical team, the Dean of Students Office, Residence Life, faculty, families, other campus departments and community entities. The CHS was the first fully accredited college health service in the nation and in the Princeton Review, the CHS has been ranked in the top 4% for Best Health Services for the past twelve years. | Duties & Responsibilities |
- Work cooperatively as part of a multidisciplinary campus-based health and mental health team to provide direct clinical services for enrolled U of A students (individuals, couples, groups), including evaluation, risk assessment, counseling, and crisis management.
- Participate in and assist in coordinating response to campus community outreach and prevention requests under the guidance of senior staff. Coordination of outreach requests includes assisting in identifying staff who may be able to facilitate a presentation, event, or other activity when requested, developing outreach materials, and engaging with student volunteers. May assist with emergency response efforts as needed.
- Under the guidance of senior staff, oversee peer-led programming, including onboarding, training, supervision, and other administrative tasks. Work in collaboration with senior staff to further develop peer-led programming efforts at CAPS.
- Provide basic consultation to families, faculty, staff, administrators, and CHS medical providers with support from or in coordination with more senior clinical team members.
- Utilize relevant information technology in clinical documentation and communication.
- Participate in assigned CHS and University-wide committees or working groups that support clinical operations.
- Provide all services in a manner that is professional, culturally sensitive, and respectful of differences.
- Work directly with community providers to facilitate direct referrals for students off-campus.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisory or leadership staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient grasp of psychopathology and diagnostic systems.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Enthusiastic and innovative approach to college mental health.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to a wide range of personal diversity and multicultural issues.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- Master's degree
in an applied mental health field (e.g., Social Work or Counseling) from an accredited institution. - Current
Licensure in the State of Arizona as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). - Three years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Employment is
contingent on ability to obtain an associate's license within six months of hire.

- Clinical experience in a multidisciplinary clinic setting.
- Experience in college mental health, including crisis assessment and management, mental health triage, brief psychotherapy, and referrals, as indicated.
- Clinical experience in working with clients with high-risk mental health issues.
- Experience with utilizing an electronic health record.
- Experience utilizing the internet, web-based software, social media, and related service delivery/marketing approaches.
- Experience working with individuals from Asia, the Middle East, or other non-Western cultures, which might also include language proficiency.
