Job Summary: Under general direction from Fitness/Wellness Coordinator, DFC Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for developing and implementing group exercise classes for DFC members. Be Bold. Work Performed/General Duties: - Educate members and enforce policies regarding safe and proper use of equipment in group exercise classes. - Motivate members to have a fun and successful class experience through safe movement demonstration at various levels of difficulty. - Create classes across multiple formats in accordance with DFC group exercise schedule. - Gather and support information on member's fitness expectations and provide guidance for reaching those goals. - Assist the DFC management staff during club special events and recreational programming as required. - Work to create a welcoming, vibrant, and all-inclusive environment that promotes safety, quality customer service, and excellence for all ages and abilities. Education/Training: - Knowledge of class creation, exercise modifications, safety procedures, and use of multiple modalities. - Current certification in group exercise instruction by ACE, AFAA, NETA, NASM, IFTA or other nationally recognized organization. - Current certification in CPR/AED/First Aid through American Heart Association or American Red Cross only. (Certification must be obtained within 30 days of hiring) Experience: - Previous experience in teaching multiple class formats. - Previous experience with a wide range of individuals preferred. Skills/Requirements: - Demonstrated planning and organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, high levels of energy, enthusiasm and motivation, maturity, and the ability to collaborate effectively with members and other professional staff. - Requires a consistent availability to work at various times of day, days of the week and weekends as well as substitute for other instructors as needed. Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $37.00.
