Job Description:

The DL Summer Languge Academy Coordinator will oversee the Dual Language Summer Language Academy. This includes selecting staff, planning educational programs, and providing instructional leadership during the summer term. One (1) position is available for Summer 2026.

This summer learning coordinator will serve in this position from April 2026 through August 2025.

Qualifications:



  • ACPS Licensed employee with experience in the Dual Language Program, who holds a Virginia Teaching License with an Administration & Supervision PreK-12 endorsement preferred.



Essential Functions:

The Summer Language Academy Coordinator will be responsible for several areas of planning, implementation, and support for the summer dual language program at a single site. In collaboration with other departments and personnel, the coordinator will:

Educational Planning



  • Regularly attend monthly meetings beginning in February, led by the ACPS Summer Learning Coordinator and/or ACPS Executive Director for Instructional Support.
  • Help to organize and distribute resources and materials in preparation and throughout summer learning
  • Collaborate with additional elementary principals and coordinators to develop and lead summer learning professional learning before the start of summer learning


Logistics Planning



  • Schedule and secure meaningful space usage onsite that meet the needs of the student enrollment and educational programming with considerations for teacher teams.
  • Ensure the schedule includes defined time for students to access food and nutritional services and instructional learning time, including physical movement.
  • Develop a plan to ensure special populations and teacher assignments are considered to provide scaffolding and support for students
  • Monitor bus assignments and student access to ensure safety and security for student arrival and departures each day
  • Ensure all classrooms have the necessary technical equipment, such as smartboards and wire.


Communications



  • Develop a system for regularly sharing daily programming updates with the teaching staff and students during summer learning
  • Work alongside with summer learning coordinator to problem-solve and collaborate on programming questions or challenges that may arise
  • Ensure all communication to families is shared in multiple ways and languages as needed based on the community.


Summer Learning Implementation and Support



  • Collaboratively develop and/or revise elementary/dual language summer learning handbooks.
  • Guide and support the daily functions of the summer learning from students' arrival to student departure each day
  • Support students during their day-to-day engagement with summer learning while using social-emotional learning strategies with equitable practices in mind.
  • Support and guide staff in their delivery of education programming designated for summer learning, including being responsive to resource needs
  • Observe and celebrate students and staff during day-to-day learning experiences through social media and ACPS communications
  • Ensure collection of data and create data reports

Compensation:



  • Stipend for this summer school position is $7,000.00, please reach out to the hiring supervisor with any questions.



Clearances:



  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
  • Public Health Compliance - Must follow safety and health protocols.
