The Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD) is looking to hire a social media assistant. The CDD Social Media Assistant will support the department's digital presence by assisting with creation, scheduling, monitoring, and analysis of content across multiple social media platforms. This role contributes to the department's outreach and engagement goals by producing timely, on-brand, and audience-relevant content. Hours: 10-20 hours per week Schedule: Flexible, with some tasks completed remotely; occasional meetings or events may require on-site presence. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, creating, and scheduling posts for platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.
- Write engaging captions, prepare visuals, and help curate multimedia content (photos, short videos, graphics) for social channels
- Monitor and engage with followers by responding to comments and messages in accordance with departmental guidelines
- Support analytics tracking and reporting
- Help maintain and update a content calendar to align posts with departmental events and initiatives
- Assist with coverage of department events via social platforms
- Stay current on social media trends, platform updates, best practices, and opportunities to grow reach and engagement
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor
Required Qualifications
- Strong written communication skills with attention to tone and audience
- Familiarity with major social media platforms and how they function (posting, stories, reels/shorts, engagement)
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
- Willingness to learn new tools such as scheduling platforms and basic analytics (e.g., platform insights, simple reporting, Canva, Meta Business Suite)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience (6mo-1yr) with content creation or social media management for an organization, campus group, or project
- Basic skills with visual tools such as Canva, Adobe, or similar graphic tools
- Comfort capturing photos or short-form video on mobile devices
- Interest in digital communication strategies and analytics
- Understanding of University of Iowa brand and brand guidelines
- Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures
