PAY RANGE

The Target Pay Range for this position is $156,200.00-$190,800.00 annually. The full Pay Range is $121,200.00 - $225,800.00 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.

IMPACT YOU'LL MAKE:

As Counsel, you'll play a key role in supporting BECU's mission by guiding teams through a wide range of legal matters with clarity and confidence. Your work will ensure alignment with federal and state laws while protecting the credit union's risk posture. You'll dive into complex issues, build specialized expertise, and partner closely with senior legal counsel to move initiatives forward. Your ability to analyze, communicate, and advocate will directly shape how BECU manages legal challenges. Every day, your contributions will help strengthen our members' financial wellbeing.

To join our dynamic team, we require candidates to be residents of WA. If you're within a reasonable driving distance from Tukwila, we are requesting that you come into our HQ on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.Remote or onsite, we are committed to ensuring you are fully engaged and included in our collaborative environment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Conduct Legal Research: Investigate legal issues, interpret statutes, case law, and regulations and produce clear, wellreasoned written analyses for senior legal counsel.
  • Review and Negotiate Contracts: Evaluate assigned contract clauses and other documents, negotiating terms to protect BECU's interests under the guidance of senior counsel.
  • Apply Risk Awareness: Use your understanding of BECU's risk tolerance to ensure legal approaches and recommendations align with organizational standards.
  • Support Litigation Activities: Collaborate on litigation matters as needed, helping prepare materials, conduct analysis, and support case strategy.
  • Support Additional Legal Needs: Contribute to other projects or responsibilities as assigned to advance departmental and organizational goals. Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Law Degree or equivalent and membership in the Washington State Bar Association required.
  • Minimum one year of experience with litigation or Financial Services and Collections or Recovery required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Admission to practice law in the Federal Courts in the State of Washington, or admission secured within 1 year.
  • Verbal and written skills to effectively communicate and provide customer service.
  • Conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure legal issues are resolved effectively.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
