GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The CNC Operator is responsible for setting up and operating the CNC plasma cutting machine. This includes preparing and positioning steel stock for cutting and punching, loading materials onto the machine, and running programs to produce parts according to specifications. The operator works as part of the steel shop team to ensure efficient and accurate production.

In addition, the operator performs daily safety inspections and basic machine maintenance, including topping off fluids and clearing moisture from air lines. The role also involves operating a forklift (after training) to safely load and unload heavy materials that cannot be handled manually.

Salary range $26-$28/Hour. Based on experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Read production drawings/blueprints and operate CNC plasma cutter to cut and punch out shapes from steel sheets
  • Must have clear knowledge of basic measurements and the ability to read a tape measure within a 16th of an inch
  • Will use basic hand tools and large magnets to remove steel pieces once cut or punched out
  • Use a forklift to move and place large materials
  • Maintain good housekeeping and always follows safety policies and procedures
  • Perform additional duties as requested or required


EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED



  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • CNC/Plasma table experience
  • Steel/Metal shop experience
  • Computer proficient or previous experience with CNC software
  • Forklift operation experience (We will certify)
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness and ability to work as a team player


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Must be able to use various hand tools or controls
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel toe laced up ankle work boots, hard hats, work gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, back brace, forearm shields, and safety vests
  • Physically able to lift up to 75 lbs, occasionally
  • Physically able to push, pull, lift, bend, climb, kneel, twist, squat, crawl and use hands/forearms repetitively and frequently
  • Ability to move around for up to 12 hours per day
  • Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, swing stages and man lifts at various heights frequently
