Job Summary (including but not limited to the following; other duties may be assigned) The Mechanical Technician is responsible for handling routine maintenance and repairs on plant facilities and equipment. The Mechanical Technician performs tasks in accordance with the Plant Maintenance Program and associated maintenance and repair procedures. Job Responsibilities
- Participate in the plant's preventive maintenance program by performing routine maintenance duties, including the collection of trending information for the Maintenance Manager.
- Forecast spare parts requirement to maintain plant reliability. Assist in physical inventories.
- Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
- Set up and operate machine shop tools in the performance of all machine work to close tolerances. Align and balance rotating equipment.
- Inspect and repair all turbines, heat exchangers, pumps, fans, and similar equipment.
- Assemble and repair tubing, piping, valves and fittings subjected to both high and low temperature or high and low pressure, or where certified welding is required.
- Assemble, disassemble, repair and adjust all types of electrical and mechanical equipment. Complete other tasks as requested by Plant Management.
- The Mechanical Technician operates from established and well-known procedures under minimum supervision, performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within prescribed operating and casualty procedures and guidelines. The Mechanical Technician encounters recurring work situations of high complexity, with occasional variations from the norm.
- The Mechanical Technician must perform work in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, and in compliance with all environmental permits at all times. The Mechanical Technician must effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant employees, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvements. The Mechanical Technician must perform duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.
- AU employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer's needs are being met.
- The Mechanical Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager and responds to direction from the Plant Manager in the absence of the Maintenance Manager. The Mechanical Technician works in cooperation with the CRO on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant.
Job Requirements
- Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school. Four years' experience as a power plant mechanic, millwright or equivalent required. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must successfully complete a Mechanical Technician's test.
- Physical requirements include: working on feet for 12 hour periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 75 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
- Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions.
- All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post- offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
